Older readers focus more on informational texts or texts with deeper meanings. By spending less time on figuring out what each words mean, they can focus more cognitive load on the information or themes at hand.

Older readers tend to read more complex texts with more multisyllabic words. Misreading words or sentences loses the meaning of the sentence and the detail that it may provide

I believe as kids get older fluency becomes useful as a way to comprehend what they’re reading instead of trying to comprehend reading as a skill. There’s much more difficult reading but with that comes harder topics to comprehend. The baseline of word recognition and other elements similar to that are necessary for that understanding.

Fluency is defined in multiple levels- phoneme recognition, morpheme recognition, letter and sound patterns, and the standout, prosody!

Their purpose is not be a writer or something, they just need to understand the text

Older readers need to be valued just as much as elementary grades. There are different components when it comes to older grades/reading there is different material and usually more material. Being able to have this fluency is essential so they are prepared for the material
