Padlet is a great collaborative tool that is super easy to use. You can post a question or a topic and get everyone to comment on it. They can add an attachment that can be a video, audio, photo, document or a link from a website. Click on the link and take a tour.

In answer to the first, I'd say good evaluations can and should assist thinking and learning (and I don't just  mean formatives here). Most of these are better done at home;  class exams rarely lend themselves  to this confluence. Ideally such evaluations should also allow for student choice.
