Shapes, Repetition

• In all three advertisements, LEGO utilizes their Lego pieces that act as shapes and make up the creation of the astronaut, firefighter and musician. Though these shapes may not provide an overall message for the advertisement I see it as LEGO sells their product by showing the incredible master pieces that little square/retangular shapes can create.
• In order for LEGO to sell their product they have to go out of the ordinary so that the audience will want want they have to sell, so LEGO must show that their seemingly simple building blocks (shapes) can create just more then a 20 piece house or 4 piece action figure
• repetition is also an element used through all of the advertisements being that three main colors are used for each advertisement and they are reflected on the background and are also the colors of the suits. These variations of color brightness and dullness allow for a simplisity which will ultimately attract the audience towards the real prize which is the legos themeselves. If there was too much repetition of a variety of colors and shapes, lines, etc then the audience wouldn’t know what to focus on.

Implied Texture in the LEGO Advertisement Campaign:
• Though the Implied texture may not surround the general ideas of the advertisement campaign, it is still an element of design, in which the edges of the LEGO sculpture allow for the audience to imagine the texture of the legos (rough and bumby edges as one runs their hand down the sculptures) except when one feels the texture of the LEGO creations instead they get a smooth paper feeling. (Explain LEGO uses this strategy to sell)

For this ad campaign the level of value played an important role. As can be seen in the advertisements, LEGOs backgrounds are one or two hues that are played out Immensly with the value being that the lightness and darkness varies throughout the background of the advertisements. In the advertisements this style is used with the lighter colors act as a spotlight for the LEGO sculptures. That way when the audience is observing the posters they lightness draws their attention to the legos. The creators played with the values of the color blue, purple, and orange in order to target their main emphasis ( the LEGO’s )

Gestalt applied to the advertisements:
•When applying the element of design, Gestalt, the audience persieves the entire advertisement as whole to clearly understand the message
•Since the LEGO advertisements are clean and simple using minimal color combinations and one short but strongly influential phrase, the audience is easily able to gather the idea that the creators of the ad are showcasing extravagant creations with their product to bring about the importance of building towards ones future.

Closure applied to the advertisements
• Though in all of the advertisements the creations of astronaut, firefighter, and musician remain unfinished the audience applies closure by using simple symbols like the guitar, space helmet, and water hose to complete the visual image of the designs.
• The creators of the advertisement left the LEGO structures unfinished to show how the small kid is “building” up to his future but he’s not finished because he is still a little kid and he needs to work his way up until he has reached the present time When he actually becomes an astronaut, firefighter or musician and that is when the creations can be finished because they have the reached the present time in their desired future.

•The creators win the audience by using the children as their eye stopper. With the small children included in the advertisements the audience is more likely to stop and observe the advertisements, feeling an emotional and endearing pull towards the advertisement. This allows for the audience to want to buy their product for themselves or their children or relatives because of the emotional aspect of the childeren showcased in the advertisements
• The advertisements also provide Empowering feautures with the impactful phrase “Build The Future”
Futuristic

Applying These Graphic Elements to Our Publication

All graphic elements are important to apply in our publication, however it is vital to contain certain elements that provide a clear (gestalt) and sophisticated message and that will include clean, eye catching patterns and a simplistic rhythm to attract our audience. It is also very important to maintain the composition and idea that we’ve developed throughout our books. LEGOS conspicuous Advertisement Campaign is a great example to build off of for future publications because it provides clean, simplistic backgrounds, with a popping image that attracts the emotions (expressions) of the audience and maintains a constant Message, avoiding any possible confusion.
