It is important since is one the four basic things for learning a language, and additionally, if you don't practice listening, you will not get familiar neither with the accent nor the pronunciation of new vocabulary.

It is important because in the case of basic students it helps them to improve their skills, for example, in the case they want to watch a movie without subtitle they may find easy to understand what the characters of the movie are saying.
