The family of seven was separated during the early stages of the Holocaust period and persecution of the Jews. The story follows each family member, adults and children, and their experience during this time. It emphasizes family values and human connections; those around us are important and many times we neglect to see everything they do for us. The members of this family are put through so many excruciating experiences, yet hold onto hope that they will soon be reunited. This book showed me the importance of fighting for your family and those that you love. When her father is called to fight in a war, but isn't able to, she steps us and dresses as a male to save her dad from having to go. Mulan has to learn to fight and keep up with the men around her. Even though it is a well-known cartoon movie, it has shown me the importance of what it means to be a strong independent female. I believe that as young women it is our job to stand up and speak out for what we believe in, even if society disagrees. She is stuck in an abusive marriage with her husband, Earl, who controls every choice she makes. To escape from her life, Jenna bakes pies at the diner alongside her two friends Dawn and Becky. When Jenna finds herself having an unwanted pregnancy, she is stuck with her husband and is only able to find comfort in dreaming up different kinds of pies she can bake. This show has taught me to be a dreamer. I believe we have power in our thoughts and that are dreams mean more than just wishful thinking. Dreams motivate us and keep us going in life. As Jenna sings in the show, "everything changes," a quote that I look too frequently for encouragement. However, nail art holds so much more than just allowing your finger tips to match your clothes. Nail art is a completely different way of being able to personalize yourself and show your interests. It can be hard for many people to express themselves through fashion, makeup, hair, or any other type of body modification. It is also a globally used art form that has taken over social media and the fashion/makeup industry. Nail art for me has become something that allows me to express who I am and how I feel. I believe that we all deserve something in life that brings us joy and relaxation, painting my nails being something that provides those for me. Also, nail art allows myself to think creatively through painting intricate and meaningful designs on my fingertips.
