         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>People from the Netherlands, France, Portugal, Germany and Switzerland came to Singapore as migrants.</p></li><li><p>There were European entrepreneurs, and there were some Europeans who set up agency houses. In return for their service, they received a commission. </p></li><li><p>The agency houses were companies that helped European manufactures  to sell good, such as opium and tea, to other traders in exchange for goods from Southeast Asia, such as spices and birds' nests. This helped increase Singapore's income and thus, allowed Singapore to be richer and attract more traders.</p></li></ol><p><br/></p>]]></description>
