Although this entire book is about this author experiencing and dealing with mental illness, this chapter called Fear is specifically about self harm. I really appreciate her including these aspects of her life in this story because it is so important for people to know that they're not alone. She cannot at all explain why she feels the need to self harm or why she is the way that she is. I love this chapter because she acknowledges that maybe she will never know why she hurts herself or why she does specific things and shes okay with that. "Some stories are not meant to be told" Is how she begins and ends the chapter, I like this because sometimes stories aren't meant to be shared.

This chapter called My Phone is More Fun to Hang Out with Than Me, she literally just includes a bunch of random notes she written herself on her phone. She does this when she experiences insomnia and cannot sleep so she documents all of her weirder thoughts to read when she wakes up in the morning. A lot of these bits are just funny random things she thinks about. I love this because its super relatable and makes me feel better about having strange ideas. I think it is important to show the more strange and relatable parts of yourself because many people find comfort in the fact that everyone is somewhat alike and nobody is perfect.

This chapter is so cute and silly because instead of having a real interview to answer reader's questions she decides to have her husband hold a fake interview with her. He wasn't too good at it but he asked decent questions that would help readers better understand Jenny's way of writing.

Jenny writes a good segment about how much she hates the way people behave at airports and its super funny and accurate. She talks about how annoying and strict the rules are before getting on a plane. She has a conspiracy that people are not allowed to bring certain objects because those are the objects you would need to survive in a zombie apocalypse. I think this is a clever way to express her anxiety about airports and flying.

She gives examples of conversations she has with her therapist which gives the readers the opportunity to have an up close and personal perspective of her private life. She manages to make it funny by saying her inner thoughts versus what she actually tells the therapist. Her inner thoughts are super relatable which makes it enjoyable to read.

This is probably one of the most funny moments when Jenny and her close friend go together to get a medical facial for the first time. You can tell she was super nervous for the procedure and she describes a couple moments when she freaks out on the doctor. When she tells embarrassing stories like this one, I know she is being truthful because why would you tell a fake embarrassing story in a book read by millions.

Something I really appreciate about Jenny Lawson is how she does not have any shame about telling crazy stories about herself that I personally would never want to tell. When she said "I'VE SWALLOWED A LEPRECHAUN AND IT'S EATING ITS WAY OUT OF MY CHEST." I laughed out loud. In reality she was suffering from an infected gallbladder but the leprechaun reference is way funnier. Best part is she screamed that in front of all the paramedics which is even worse.

Jenny randomly mentions that she has a "lucky nipple" which at first startled me but she goes on to say that some woman gave her a fake nipple during a book tour and sometimes she wears it around waiting for people to alert her of a nip-slip. I think this is super weird but I can appreciate the fact that she shares these quirks with her readers.

An important part of this memoir is that throughout the entire book she includes tons of pictures of places or mostly strange objects that relate to her stories. She often describes such weird scenarios that its almost hard to imagine, so including these images is so helpful to the reader when trying to picture said moment. She must take a lot of them on her phone but they are decent quality so you can see them quite well.

Jenny explains how she suffers from severe insomnia and how it greatly impacts her life. She decides to get a sleep study done which is a new, strange experience. As a great author of course, she decides to include details and even pictures from her study to help the readers better understand. Although the sleep study barely helped her it is wonderful that she shared it with us.
