The 3 stages of perception are sensing, organizing and interpreting.

Sensing applies to sight, sound, taste. touch and smell and it is the process of taking in stimuli around us. It is impossible to process all of the stimulus around us, so we select which ones to focus our attention on.
Organizing is taking the selected stimuli and grouping them in either by patterns or by familiarity, such a family, work groups, friends.
Interpreting is how we given meaning to what to perceive and organize. Interpretation can be influenced by physical space, physical differences, past experiences and expectations.

How do the 3 stages connect with classroom teaching and provide an example for each.

Sensing is important in classroom teaching because it's important to engage all of our students' senses.
Organization is important in a classroom because it's important to be tidy and efficient. Books should with books and toys should be in bins. It's also important to stay on top of assignments and deadlines.
Interpreting applies to classroom teaching because all students can interpret information differently. Some may be more tactile learners while some may be auditory.

How do the 4 primary factors influence perception?

The 4 main factors are physical space, physical differences, past experiences and expectations. Each of these factors can influence perception in different but equally important ways. First of all, physical space or position is an important influencer because if you are siting directly in front of someone, you are more able to connect by body language and direct eye contact. Physical differences influence our perception because we are comparing ourselves. Those differences or similarities can change the way that we interpret the information. Based on appearances, we have a pre-conceived bias based on what we have previously seen or known. Past experiences can influence your perception because you are automatically are interpreting the stimulus around us based on what you know, your family, your workplace, home language, culture, etc. Expectations are what you are expecting to happen in the future. Most people go into a conversation with a small idea of what the conversation will entail. An example that was used was a physician appointment, there was an expectation that the conversation will revolve around health.

Perception checking is important because it allows people to see how each of us, as individuals, perceive the same message. Sometimes because people come from different backgrounds they may have different values and understandings, they may interpret the same message very differently.
