Beringia was a land bridge formed in the most recent ice age, about 30,000 years ago. It connected alaska and asia, and was exposed because ocean water was frozen into glaciers. When this was exposed, the wooly mammoths migrated across, and ended up in parts of north america. People followed these mammoths across the land bridge, and throughout america. The ice age soon ended, the earth heated up, the mammoths died, and beringia closed up. This left the people stranded in the americas, and they had to adapt. They soon discovered farming, and also began a hunter-gatherer society. These people become the native americans.

When america was discovered by the Europeans, the two worlds collided. Corn, squash, beans, tobacco, nuts, potatoes, and other regional crops were shared with europe, along with turkeys. Fruits, sugars, and grains were shared with the americas, along with farm animals and diseases. the diseases wiped out a good portion of the native americans, as their immune systems were unfamiliar with the general background of the disease. One thing the history books skip out on is how travellers from england also died from the same reason, as the water supply had many viruses

There are a multitude of reasons that one might want to explore a new continent, weather it be adventure, discovering new things, etc. But those aren't the reasons of any famous explorer. no, the ones that were the most recognised were after three things; God, Gold, and Glory.

Gold
many explorers knew the real value of the new world. they knew it had a large amount of gold and other precious minerals, like silver, rubies, and sapphire.

God
Over time, many missionaries came to convert the natives to christianity, which proved to be successful enough to bring more missionaries to help the cause. other instances could include a search for religious freedom, drawing in pilgrims and puritans. in fact, the oldest known city in america was founded by spanish missionaries

Glory
Even though the americas blocked the way to asia, sailors didn't give up on an all-water route to asia. they searched for a non-existent passage called the northwest passage.

There were many reasons, but the main ones include religious freedom, economic profit, and building an empire for their home country.

Religious freedom
In england, the king appointed a standardized church, with varying opinions from the people. So, in an attempt to do whatever they feel like, they went ahead and sailed off into the sunset.

Profit
There are plenty of opportunities in a new continent, and money is one very large opportunity not to be missed out on. As shown by the london company, there are many people who want to profit from the land, and jamestown was proof that it could sort of halfway work

Empire
Everyone is proud of their home country, and most are willing to die in service to their country. im sure if america found an island in the middle of the pacific ocean, we'd claim it and make it a tourist destination. *Hawaii*

The mayflower compact was a document preventing puritans and separatists from being angry at each other. like a ban on being angry at supporters of the opposite political party. I have seen plenty news reports about riots aimed at supporters of both presidential candidates.

I felt like doing a little research on the work of growing tobacco, and i figured its an appropriate subject, as it was a cash crop that saved jamestown

Now, the tobacco seeds start out very small, no bigger than a pin prick, but grow to have roots that extend far out, so you shouldn't plant the seeds too close together. keep them inside for 6 weeks to avoid them freezing over, but don't cover the seeds in soil, as they need sunlight to germinate. let it grow for a bit, all while giving it the necessary attention of a regular plant, watering it accordingly. when its harvesting time, collect the leaves, and burn the stalks. this will clear your field for the next season. once you have the leaves, dry them out in a barn for a few weeks, and sell it to a local cigarette company. i doubt marlboro will accept a small farms tobacco, as they process most of their tobacco in a factory
