They were told that they were not as good as men.Also any property belonging to the women after they got married belonged to the husband.The National Women's Suffrage Association was started in 1869 by Elizabeth Stanton and Susan B. Anthony. These 2 strong women were some of the main leaders of this movement.There were other parts of the women rights movement such as equal pay and legal equality. The nineteenth amendment, which gave women the right to vote, was added to the constitution in May of 1919.
In the early 1800's women of any age were considered as not as good or less than a man. Girls were not encouraged or told to have  a real education or pursue a professional  job or career. In 1848, a group of women activists well mostly women, but some men gathered in Seneca Falls, New York to discuss the problem of women's rights. They were invited by the reformers Elizabeth Stanton and Lucretia Mott. It was the nation's first gathering for the rights of women. That's how the women's rights movement was started . In 1807,bringing slaves to the US was banned soon after Americans who opposed slavery began to speak out against slavery. Abolitionists began to spread the word to fight against slavery. There were a few of main abolitionists leaders some of the following were William Garrison , Harriet Stowe , and Fredrick Douglas.This movement was a big part of sectionalism because it threatened the southern way of life.This movement called for emancipation for all slaves.
