Reflect on any of the case studies presented and answer at least 1 of the following questions: How was the last person impacted? How does this case impact the field of OT? What strategies would you employ in this scenario? How are the themes presented in the case study related to the goal of the AHWDA bill? How do you see the AOTA's DEI action items at play?

I think this bill would impact Creighton's OT department by increasing the number of students in the program who come from diverse backgrounds, which would enhance the learning of all the students in the classroom as it would offer a variety of different and unique perspectives.

Case Study #3: Bethany
1. This person was receiving a lower salary than someone in the same clinic with the same qualifications and experience as her and that person was white.
2. This case demonstrates that the field of occupational therapy has room for improvement in our efforts of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We need to ensure that there is no discrimination against any OTs or any patients due to their race or cultural background.
3. The case mentions that Bethany is considering speaking to HR, which I think is a definite need. I feel like sometimes it can be "taboo" to speak about salaries in the workplace, but technically there is nothing against it and I think it can ensure that all employees are treated fairly.
4. The theme in this case relates to the lack of diversity across OT professionals and demonstrates a need for increased efforts to reach a more diverse workforce.
5. AOTA is working to raise awareness about the importance of diversity throughout OT which is an action item of theirs that would be impacted by this case. Additionally, AOTA is working to offer federal funding for students from diverse backgrounds to enter these allied health professions, which would again relate back to diversifying the profession. This case demonstrates how necessary these things are.
