LETTERING FROM AROUND ME

I chose this lettering as I found that this was a very interesting lettering as I found it while in my local park on a sun dial. I found this one the most investing as it reminds me of the type of lettering that you would find in the more in the past then you would in designs today. I found that finding this was quite hard as it was hard to make out the writing while there however in the photo you can see it more clearly. I like the overall design of his font as I like how you can clearly read it however it still has the more cursive look to it. If I was to find this and take more photos, I would try and get one closer so that I could see more of the details that are in the lettering.

When thinking about what I love hand what makes me me, I always think back to music, animals and makeup as they are the things that I enjoy. I decided to do three different yet simple poster designs to show them off. I decided to go simplistic as I wanted you to be able to look at them and instantly see what they were representing and showing off. I wanted to go for the black background and then put bold colours on the top as I find these to be very eye catching when looking at posters.

I am looking forward to looking and experimenting with the different types of type and ultimately creating something that looks good and can try and relate to the poetry.

I plan on looking and evaluate the poem in the project so that I try and create imagery using it. I also plan on looking at different typography from around me so that I can get inspiration from the types of fonts and type that people use to catch people's eye and make them look at the final piece. I want to experiment with both hand rendered and digital designs during this process so that I can look at all the different possible outcomes so that i can decide which I like the best. Hand rendered includes painting, drawing printing etc, and for digital it will mainly be focused on Photoshop and Illustrator.

I am excited about this brief as I am looking forward to experimenting and finding out more about type and the different ways it can be used and the different meanings behind it.
I would like to use the current skills that I have on Photoshop for this project and expand and grow them, I would also like to try and develop my hand rendered skills weather that is with drawing or with using different inks or pint, I would like to experiment and work on them for the final outcomes.
One process I would like to experiment with is making letters and typography out of part and ink and then using this and taking it onto the computer to expand and experiment with different layers and different ways t use the typography that I made.
During this project, I hope to be able to create and experiment with different fonts and create different outcomes using this.
I plan on looking at some different practitioners during this project, a couple being Alex Trochut, Wim Crouwel, Stefan Sagmeister, Nina Chakrabarti along with finding more artists throughout the project who I find interesting and looking more into them.
My audience range will be from teen to young adult, I have chosen this age range as I feel like this is large age range along with me being in it, I will be able to relate to the age group and also get opinions from people I this age group a lot easier than if it was different.

I think that the episode that I watched about type was very informative and allowed me to look at type the way that a professional does rather than just how you would normally look at it and look more into the different ways of designing type.
I also was able to learn new techniques and different ways that you have to alter and change type when making it in a way that all the type looks the same. I learnt that when you make the you have to 'Overshoot, Balance and Contrast' when making type so when looking at it it all looks the same and look like they are the same height and size.
I also found out that I found very interesting about how some different type faces are made only t be a certain size and how sometimes you have to look at it and see its Optical Size, and also seeing how some letters are affected by the Poggendorf Solution.

So that I could find out about the types of things that I could use and create, I decided that I would talk to someone who is between 16-25 (my age range) along with a member of the LGBTQI+ community. I did this as I wanted his feedback of the way that I am representing and getting my message across the way that I want to.
His comments were to make sure there was an equal representation of both male and female on the colleges, and try and make sure the webpage is fun and inviting for anyone that would come across it.

During this project I took my article, MGMT.’s Hypothetical, Typographical Hack on Gendered Pronouns, and had to create a website to show off my long read text. To go along with this, I also had to create 4 final college pieces and one animated gif which represents the themes from my article.

At the beginning on this project, I thought that my college outcomes would be more digitally made, however through development of my work and experimenting with different outcomes, I preferred and felt like my analog techniques were stronger and got my message across better.

My workshops from this project managed to help me develop and further experiment with my outcomes, and learn new and different techniques and processes that I didn’t know of in the past, so that my end results were developed and the best they could be, from learning new techniques to also feedback which helped refine and improve my ideas.

The majority of my key moments was when we would look and discuss the work that I had done, and talked and thought about how I could improve and develop these to create stronger pieces and outcomes that relate and can enhance my article. This included looking at the layout of my webpage, along with the type of end results and images that I made.

My target audience is people between 16-25, who want to learn and find more out about things like pronouns along with the issues that are raised in the article. I managed to discuss this with a member of the LGBTQI+ community and got his opinion on the type of work and outcomes which I could create to enhance and make sure the different things that I wanted to get across could come across.

I think that my project was successful, as I have managed to create all individual pieces and outcomes that i want, and have managed to get the message of my article across into my colleges and animation, without making it be too obvious. I feel like I have managed to achieve that, and show the message that all genders are equal and should be treated the same, no matter what they are classed or seen as.

During this brief, I am excited to look at and learn the proper way to make a website and the different processes that are involved when coming to the final outcome.

Im hoping that I can use my past knowledge of photoshop to experiment with different digital college techniques that I can use and create when looking at making my final outcomes.

I plan on using the themes and issues that are presented in my article (like different genders and how there represented) when making and creating my pieces. I also would like to experiment with more analoge college making techniques and see the types of outcomes that I can create by doing this, compared to the digital outcomes I created in the last project.

I am hoping that I will be able to make a website that shows off and enhances my article. I am also hoping that I can make outcomes that look like they could be put onto a real webpage and fit in and look like it was made specifically for that.

I plan and want to look at famous collage artists like Linder and Marcelo Monreal, along with more so that I can get a broad range of different college artists.

My audience is mainly targeted at people between 16-25, who want to learn more about the different issues that are talked about throughout the article. I will try and attract them by using brighter more welcoming colours.

Critical Reflection - Project 1

During this project I had to choose a poem, John Cooper-Clarke, I Wanna Be Yours, and use this to influence and make multiple different outcomes for this including a publication, poster and a moving image piece. When making these, I had to think and use the the poem for inspiration as to how I would make my pieces.

My inventions evolved through the project as originally on my statement of intent I wanted to try create analog work, and then take it onto the computer and digitally did them. This is not what happened however, as all of my outcomes turnt out to be made digitally, even the dot matrix type that I created.

My learning through the different workshops helped me be able to experiment and look at the different outcomes that I could use and create that would fit into my theme and show the message that I want to try and show through my different outcomes.

Some key moments of this project was when I talked and showed my different ideas that I had, which then lead to the editing and deciding what was strong and what aspects were not needed. This then lead to me deciding and knowing what type of final outcomes I could make and create.

My age range for this project was teens/young adults as these were the people who I think would need to learn and know about the messages that I am trying to show and convey through both my outcomes along with the words and use of the poem, not everything is as it first seems.

I think that this project was very successful as I believe I have managed to show the idea of not everything is as it seems at the first look (like I originally thought with the poem), I believed I have managed to do this well, with my outcomes showing multiple different messages the longer/more you look and concentrate on the different pieces.
