The siege of Vicksburg was actually of course between the Union (north) and the confederates (South). With this war it was located in Warren county, Mississippi. With the win it was a decided Union win. The dates for the war was May 18,1863 to Jul 4th, 1863, it was a rather short battle. There were a total of 4,835 Union deaths and Confederate deaths were 32,697. However the Battle of Vicksburg was huge because the Union got control of the Mississippi River therefore the Union were able take over and shutdown the trade of the Confederates, their transportation, and military operations. Vicksburg was the key.

David Farragut was a Vice Admiral for the Union during the Civil War. During the war he was in charge of the Union blockading squadron located in the western Gulf of Mexico. This is where he was going to enter the Mississippi and take over New Orleans. He went past them with guns blazing even though he was not suppose but he was successful in taking over. This took place in the night on April 24th, 1862. He destroyed most of the Confederate river squadron. This made him in charge of the area which led to the surrender of both forts and cities.
