Ralph is an important character in this book because of his leadership skills. His maturity causes the littluns to look up to him. At the start of the book, he acts as a fun-loving silly guy. As the book moves on and rescue is gaining more importance he makes sure everyone is staying focused. This leadership makes him almost obsessed. All Ralph focuses on is the fire and the smoke. Determination is a key part of Ralph's identity. He doesn't give up even when Jack created his tribe.

Frodo is a caring person and almost an outcast. His parents died when he was young so Bilbo Baggins took over as his guardian. Bilbo was famously known for retrieving treasure from the Lonely Mountain and Frodo wanted to follow in his adventurous footsteps. Frodo gets persuaded a lot throughout the book. He knows he should not put the ring on to keep his friends safe but he still has that temptation. Frodo is vulnerable at times but he can also be guarded and have a filter like protection. I would describe Frodo as a caretaker because of the way he looks after his friends. He will make sure they are safe and that comes with bravery.

Ralph and Frodo are similar because of their adventurous but almost timid side. Ralph is focused on one part of survival while Frodo is focused on his quest or journey. Determination is a key trait they both share in their identity. Frodo is more likely to make mistakes then Ralph is because of his vulnerability. On the other hand, Frodo made more accomplishments the Ralph did. Ralph and Frodo are both caretakers and care for the safety of their peers.
