In order to offer purposeful choices for students to show what they know, teachers must first create a learning goal. From there, teachers can give students the option of how they share their knowledge. With a clear goal and expectations, there can be a variety of ways to display knowledge. If the learning goal is to understand the events leading up to the civil war, students can show this by creating a timeline, a slide deck, or even a skit.

To offer purposeful options for students to show what they know, we can provide different kinds of assessments like make a project, presentation or written assignment. While designing options, we should make sure all students meet the same learning objectives. We should deliver clear guidelines and rubrics so that they have a clear vision on how to present their work.
