https://padlet.com/finley9732/47zly2e2j29u Repetition Repetition Repetition Repetition Repetition Repetition Repetition Repetition Repetition en-us 2017-10-08 23:02:51 UTC 2023-11-11 11:19:11 UTC hello@padlet.com finley9732 https://padlet.com/finley9732/47zly2e2j29u/wish/195068335      As far as Ratliff believes, repetition is the groundwork for all musical genres as we would know them.  Repetition as he defines it is small changes against an overwhelming constant that makes music what it is.  I partially agree with the way he looks at this concept.  I understand mechanically how this makes sense in two different ways.  Initially, we see repetition while making a song.  The same chords and chord progressions are used with small alterations during songs.  You may sing the same chorus three times but put it in a different key or octave each time.  We see the repetitive structure, but not necessarily the same thing over and over again.  And Secondly you see repetition in different songs in the same genres.  Specifically in hip hop, we see very similiar and even the exact same beats repeated across different songs for different artists.  
Miley Cyrus "Party in the USA" is a perfect example from Ratliff's list of the repetition throughout a song, its the same three chords over and over, and there is little variation with any of the verses or choruses.
