These are less complex skill that one would imaging but which hinder growth. These are the skill to communicate, to be reflective thinkers and critical when it comes to their own work. The skill to accept criticism and wait for your turn to discuss a point. The notion that every occasion, every discussion can be a source of education and personal growth.

What if before we introduce the STEM professionals during a Teen Science Cafe, we just make them line up and describe something abut their life (not work) - family, hobbies and interests. Then we tell the pupils that among these individuals there is an archaeologist, a nurse, a nutritionist etc and allow the pupils to try to guess who is who. This exercise would help to break down some stereotypes associated with particular STEM carriers.

The Third used electronics and information technology to automate production. This also raises the issue of revolution and morality. What is acceptable? Where should we draw the line between industrial revolution and natural processes? Humans are always fighting against aging (for example)....what if technology and IT would be able to provide a memory chip implanted at birth and downloaded before death...aren't we just a collection of memories and experiences?!? Is this science fiction or a reality just round the corner?!?

Tomorrow's Jobs: I was intrigued by the notion that 65% of today's students will be doing jobs that don't even exist yet. This would make our job as educator pretty tricky....It's like aiming at a target blindfolded. After doing some reading, it seems that the general belief is that tomorrow's STEM jobs will be oriented around the following: Virtual Reality; Digital media and its management; Technology and biological manipulations; Ethics; Sustainability and Artificial Intelligence. But there is no such thing as fortune telling science and therefore what should educators do? How can we adequately prepare our students for tomorrow's jobs?
Generalized education: I believe that our educational systems should not just deliver knowledge based education. Schools should build adaptable individuals armed with logical skills. I do understand that STEM career needs are changing very quickly and that pragmatic changes in school require a change in mentality, and this takes time. My concern is that the mainstream schooling system will not manage to catch up.
What can be done? What if we inform our students about this change and make them active participants in their own skills building quest? Example: What if mainstream education requires the pupils to have a Portfolio of skills where the pupils are asked to get training in a formal or informal manner in designated areas; areas which are identified as vital skills for STEM worker of tomorrow? These areas could include: arts; communication; software; ethics; managerial; media studies etc. This could be compiled over a number of years and will result in the pupil being aware of the importance of the acquisition of a range of skills. What if we provide skills training through MOOC s designated for pupils which they can do during the summer holidays? This could be a way how educators could fill this skills gap in parallel with mainstream education which in general resists change....let alone quick and progressive changes.

Looking at the way we teach STEM subjects, I feel a bit confused. We shout out the need for Soft Skills and adaptability; creativity; team work and flexibility and yet we compartmentalize out subject in such a way that we separate the rainbow formation process (physics) from the structure of the eye (biology) from the composition of materials that result in color (chemistry). Isn't this limiting. There are no boundaries between sciences in nature! How can we teach in such a sectioned and segmented manner with no interlink between the science fields and pretend to instill creativity, innovation and adaptability? I wonder!!

They should also meet a professional that is currently working in the field they are studying. A project like that would be mind blowing!!
