"Dear friends, on October 2012, the Taliban shot me on the left side of my forehead. They shot my friends too. They thought the bullets would silence us, but they failed." (par.6)

The quote appeals to ethos because Malala had a first hand experience with the Taliban herself. This shows credibility because Malala went through this painful experience therefore she can back up her argument on women's rights and the rights to be educated.

"Malala day is not my day. Today is the day of every woman, every boy and every girl who have raised their voice for their rights."

Appeals to pathos by Malala extenuating her strive and passion for equal rights in this quote. She doesn't make everything about her, instead she highlights the fact that she is not alone in a movement around the world.

"There are hundreds of human rights activists and social workers who are not only speaking for their rights, but who are struggling to achieve their goal of peace, education, and equality. Thousands of people have been killed by the terrorists and millions have been injured" (paragraph 5)

Malala gives us information about the great amount of casualties that resulted from activists fighting for their rights due to the terrorists, establishing that it is a serious topic. This appeals to human emotions of sadness and sympathy. This also establishes the fact that many activists have been killed, and she just happens to be one that's alive.

Evidence: "Thousands of people have been killed by the terrorists and millions have been injured. I am just one of them. So here I stand. So here I stand, one girl among many." (Yousafzai, 5).

Analysis: This shows that she is a strong and dedicated individual to the cause and as a person. It gives us reassurance and portrays her as a trusted leader. She is strong for the cause because she still fights for her beliefs, and even endures violence to achieve her goals.

Quote: "Dear friends, on 9 October, 2012, the Taliban shot me on my forehead." (Paragraph 6)
Analysis: It made history when the Taliban attempted to assassinate Malala, her demonstrating the date, where, and her experience makes her statement even more credible. It proves she's comfortable speaking out, feeling in control, all the while showing devotion and building hope.

"In the name of God...Respected elders and my dear brothers and sisters." (paragraph 1,2)
She calls out the religious people in the audience by referencing God (especially not specifying which god) which can improve her reliability and relatability. Also calling out to her brothers/sisters shows how inviting she is, helps her connect to the audience, and lets the audience know shes talking directly to them.

(paragraph 5).

Malala establishes herself as someone who is fighting for without rights. She is not afraid to advocate for them, even with dangers present. The audience will have an image of Malala as a caring and selfless person who puts others before herself and would trust her more.

Quote: "Thousands of people have been killed by terrorists and many have been injured. I am just one of them. So here I stand." (par. 5)

This quote appeals to Pathos because Malala establishes emotion and passion and uses her experiences to motivate the audience to follow her lead and stand with her, by using her own courage to give the audience their own courage and feel that if she can do it, that they can stand with her as well. Her act of courage encourages the audience to find their own courage and instill it in themselves, strengthening them. Malala wants her audience to understand what she and many others have been through so that they can feel what she's feeling and stand with her.

(par. 3)

Yousafzai uses God to connect with the audience, and to appeal to their spiritual beliefs and feelings. She mentions God to connect with the U.N. on another level, showing them how passionate she is about her cause. For those in audience who have the same religious beliefs as her, they are able to understand where she is coming from and have a deeper emotional tie to her cause.
