Many people may consider STEM areas more important than humanities for much, however, life is much more than just numbers, equations, and science; we as humans have the need to understand ourselves, human relationships, our way of thinking, and to look back into human activities to change the future. Today, we live in a world of constant growth and therefore with diverse problems. However, these issues are not exclusive to a discipline or area of knowledge, but to solve them it is necessary the participation of the scientific, social, and especially the human areas.
What are humanities?
Humanities are considered the study of humans as individuals and societies, based on exploration and interpretation. They are also known as the opposite of the sciences.

According to Velarde (2020): “Humanities majors can learn about all facets of society, from human relationships to past achievements.” With these, I mean that the study of humanities is the opportunity to develop new abilities such as:
- Problem-solving
- Critical thinking
- Reading, writing, and speaking skills
- Empathy between humans
- Aesthetic appreciation
- Development of a society structured with values and ethics
Furthermore, the learning of humanities enables society to know about different worldwide cultures, languages, and types of people, across countries, continents, and oceans. While understanding the different types of people that exist in the world, it is important to develop critical thinking that invites people to look objectively into other cultures and adapt to different contexts that exist.

Art and literature are undoubtedly linked, due to their aesthetic characteristics, their way of expression, and their transformation of words into feelings and experiences.
According to Google Arts & Culture (n.d): “Great works of art have inspired great works of literature, great works of literature have inspired art, and together art and literature have simultaneously represented similar movements.“ However, this has not happened simply because of written texts, but because every word that is written has a meaning and a reason. Literature involves different literary genres such as short stories, novels, fiction, dramas, and poetry, among other things, and is defined by Britannica as a “variety of systems, including language, national origin, historical period, genre, and subject matter.” Even with this, there is no doubt that literature is much more than a meaning, as I already mentioned, it is considered an art. Its structure, which includes metaphors, rhetorical figures, words, and phrases, expresses many feelings and ideas that generate pleasure in the readers and make them be transported to another world and feel empathy with the writer.

Imaginative literature refers to written texts that are based on fictional characteristics. This means that within it it is possible to create and imagine possible backgrounds and imaginative characters, which can perform actions that should not coincide with what is normal in reality. The main purposes of these texts are to entertain, inspire, stimulate reactions and innovative thoughts, and transport the readers to an other world where everything is possible according to the plot. Some examples of this type of literature are fairy tales, fairy tales, novels, books, myths, legends, etc.
