If you're confused about what diplomacy means then fear not, for I have another definition for you! So that means that you can close google... right now... do it.. there you go!
The word Diplomacy means the art of dealing with people in a sensitive and effective way.
Since the US did not want to sign the Treaty of Versailles, or join the League of Nations, they decided to turn to the policy of Isolationism. Isolationism meant that the country (in this case the US) would choose to not get involved with any of the other countries problems.
During this time the US decided to focus only on the Economic growth of it's country and figuring out how to get themselves out of Economic Depression also known as the Great Depression.
The Great Depression was a time of tremendous Economic (money) loss that brought devastation to many countries.

Europe was one of the countries that was hit pretty bad by the Great Depression. The people started to blame the government leaders for their hardships, and political and social unrest began to rise in many nations. Due to this totalitarian governments
began to take charge. This government restricts personal freedom and prohibits political opposition. This lead to the rise of dictators such as Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Joseph Stalin.
