Behavioral theory: Suppose there were two buttons in front of me, the first producing a candy and the second producing a slight shock. Start pressing each button. I've now gained the knowledge that the first button will produce a reward, and the second button will then produce a consequence. I will be more inclined to hit the first button that produces rewards repeatedly. Versus the shock that I would receive from pressing the second button. Why? Because I would want to continue with the action that produces the reward. This is Behavioral theory, learning that my actions will have a reaction and, based on my experience, choosing the action that best benefits me.

Social theory: If your home life, friendships, or some other relationship is causing strain or stress, it can impact your emotions negatively and vice versa. If those same relationships are going well, then there can be a positive effect on your emotions. The motivation you need to continue and complete the task will be heavily affected if you're continuously thinking about an argument, what someone said, or how you came across; social theory is regarding how our relationships impact our emotions.

Cognitive theory: Suppose you only had an hour to study before you had to take a test. In your face, you're going to fail, you're not feeling very confident, and because you don't feel confident, you start second-guessing your answers on the test, and ultimately, you end up failing the test. But let's say that you studied with a positive mindset that even though you only had an hour to study, you're going to pass. So because you believe this, you'll gain some confidence, and you won't need to second guess yourself, and by the end of the test, you will pass. Our thoughts have the power to shape our actions and outcomes, either for better or for worse. this is Cognitive theory.

Humanistic theory: Humanistic theory is based on Maslow's hierarchy of needs; to be motivated to achieve our highest potential, we must first take care of our needs. There are 5 levels of our needs that need to be met to feel motivated to complete a task psychologically (we must attend to our basic needs first, which are food, water, and sleep), safety(which are our environment, finances, and health and Wellness, etc. if these things are not taken care of then it is hard to focus on the task at hand), love and belonging( our friendships our relationships with family and partners can impact our focus), self-esteem(if we aren't feeling good about ourselves then we lose the motivation to continue our work because if you weren't feeling good about yourself what makes you want to complete anything), an actualization(taking care of our basic needs allows us to flourish to complete the task the best of our abilities and fulfills one potential before we can feel motivated,

Humanistic theory would be most helpful in maintaining my motivation because it is a blueprint of what I need to feel prepared to take on any task. I need food; I need water, I need sleep; otherwise, I may gain a migraine in the middle of the day because I didn't eat, or I'm thirsty, or I'm sleep deprived and won't be able to produce my best work amongst other needs that need to be met. I need to make sure that I feel good, that I'm ready, that I have no distractions, and that I'm confident that I'm motivated to complete my task; otherwise, I give up on it.

Motivation Technique #1, which I usually use, is breaking down my tasks. When I can break down my tasks, I feel a sense of relief as I can see a clear path to my end goal. It allows me to break down big projects into more manageable parts. I can create a list and complete the tasks one at a time. That way, the work doesn't seem too long or complicated, which motivates me to complete it faster.

Motivation technique #2 is having a positive attitude. If I have a positive attitude that I'm going to be able to get my work done in a selected amount of time, then I know that I can get it done. Working on long and difficult paths helps when I say I'm almost done. I got this. We're almost done. Positive energy allows me to feel that a positive outcome can happen. I've completed tasks like this before, and I know that I can do it again.
