The whole room smelled like Hollister perfume and Curve.

SAT Attempt #2: Went to a high school on a Saturday where I knew no one. Studied for Verbal. Got every analogy correct.

SAT Attempt #3: Studied for Math. Ended up doing better on both Math and Verbal.

It was an early Saturday morning and I recall feeling nervous, unprepared. I spent several months studying with an afterschool group - but for the most part we goofed off. I recall walking into the exam center (our sister campus) sitting down and thinking I'd try my best - and if I didn't do well there's would always be another opportunity. I answered all questions and completed the essay to the best of my ability. I left feeling underwhelmed about the whole experience. When scores came a short time later, my Mom was thrilled. I did well enough to make her smile, which was a tough task. With that, my first SAT experience was good.

I didn't have the best guidance counselor and literally didn't think to take the SAT until I was working on my college application Fall of my senior year. My mom went to school in France, so the concept that a college entrance exam is optional was foreign to her, she couldn't provide guidance either. I signed up using the late registration option for the October SAT, didn't have much time to prep and quite honestly don't remember much from it.

My parents bought me a huge book and I started studying. I did not take it super seriously until about a week before the SAT. No one really gave me much guidance about when to take the test or that I should give myself time for a re-take. The closest test center was about 45 minutes from my house, so my mom dropped me off early that Saturday morning and I did not know a single person. Afterwards, my mom had to go to work so my dad had to leave work to pick me up and he showed up at the school in a fire truck to embarrass me. This story pretty much summarizes my entire childhood for you.

I took the SAT twice and the ACT once. My older brother was one of the those almost perfect SAT score people so I was very nervous and overall wasn't a great tester. I remember studying with the big book and doing 1 or 2 SAT word study sessions with kids from student council. I don't think I studied at all for the ACT but did for the SAT. I remember taking the SAT both times at our local community college and not knowing anyone in room, which made it feel easier for some reason. Both times I did great on the English portion and not so great at math. I am who I am.

I saw my counselor once as a Freshman. The school assumed we all knew what to do to qualify for college. Long story short, I never knew I had to take SAT and didn't even know I should have taken it until I was already on my way in Junior College. Oddly enough, that opened up opportunities I never would have had otherwise.

I moved from IL to TX the summer before my junior year of high school, and went from a small, rural school in IL to a giant, ridiculously crazy competitive school in a suburb of Dallas. There were 2000+ in my graduating class. The conversations with my counselor in TX never involved any CEE...I think I saw her twice during my whole time in HS. To be honest, I don't know how I ended up registered for the ACT and SAT in my senior year, but I would imagine that potentially (and I'm embarrassed now to admit) my parents signed me up for them. I just know I took both. And I know that I was wildly unprepared for them and did not study or practice, because it was never made a priority in school (though I was in two AP Courses), and while my parents and I did have the understanding I would be going to college, I didn't receive any direction from anyone at school so we were all flying a little blind. I do know, that on the Friday before my SAT, we discovered that the test center was not going to be the neighboring high school where I took my ACT, but rather a JC 30 minutes + away....and I freaked out and "threatened" not to take the test. We had to do a trial drive late on Friday night to make sure I knew where to go/entrance, and I felt even more unprepared early the next morning. I use that story to talk to districts about SAT SD all the time...

I think I blocked it out because of bad testing anxiety (lol). I took the SAT once at a local public high school. All I remember is that my sister packed me snacks the night before (Cheetos). I got a decent score, but my mom wanted me to retake it to score as high as I did on practice tests. I refused. Sorry mom!

My lasting memory about the SAT is that I was able to have an opportunity to take it last minute at a high school 3 cities over. I was lucky because I knew where the school was, but was just told to be there at 7am. I arrived and had no clue what to do. I was eventually led to a classroom with like 30 other students. It was a little overwhelming. I really didn't feel prepared but I took the test anyway.

I took the SAT three times, hoping to get a higher score to qualify to be in the running for a full-ride scholarship at my University. Sadly, I was within 10 points of getting that score by my last attempt. I was pretty disappointed in myself and frustrated because I had worked so hard throughout high school to stand out on college and scholarship applications. I think all of this eventually taught me how privilege played a role in my even knowing how to navigate all of this in the first place and how competitive access to college and college affordability can be.

I took it one time and got 1@#$, great score.
