"The Lottery" was written in the third-person point of view and this allows the narrator to form a distanced and objective stance to a terrifying and uncomfortable story. It creates a sense of dread in the reader which adds to the overall tone of fear and unease that build up into the shocking end.

2. This story would have been very different in the first person, perhaps we would have seen the perspective of certain characters and the fear or discomfort that they felt throughout the events of the day.
