In addition, it is really interesting to see how learners can take responsibility of their own learning through the implementation of basic routines, established roles, systematic and ongoing training, and clear procedures.

It highly calls my attention because the students really look motivated performing their assigned roles. It seems that they have developed positive habits and that are committed to their own learning process.
It highlights the importance of systematic training, establishing clear procedures and daily routines. 
Though being autonomous takes a long process, there are some easy things that we can start implementing in our classes, such as assigning leaders who may lead some activities or even lessons, promoting peer sharing and evaluation among them, having facilitators who may guide discussions and explanations, making students aware and responsible for their duties and giving options to complete them.

After watching this video I could realize about the importance to make the students work independently,  however, I consider this is a  difficult task in our Colombian context. Most of our students are not independent when developing their tasks, they require somebody else to tell them when and how to develop certain activities.

If we expect our students work by themselves, our  role is to motivate them by reflecting on the benefits to discover and build knowledge. Additionally,  the topics we select for teaching  the students must be relevant for their context they have to believe that what they are learning is important so that they have the chance to share it with their partners.

The video is an example of learner training. According to Harmer (2007) this is the first step on the road to self-directed learning. Thus, in the video the learners follow a routine in which they copy new assignments, check their homework, compare answers and lead discussions. When they are alone, some of them (the leaders or the monitors) are asked to make list of misbehaved students. When they are working in groups, they do something different to what was assigned. Maybe it is because they are not being taught either what they consider they need, or they want. Additionally, summative assessment makes children competitive. That is why they cheat, they copy homework just to get the grade or score. Students laugh at classmates’ mistakes. Besides, due to only one hour a week English lesson, the process I develop with my students is very slow.

However, from the video, the enduring idea for me is that in order to help my students to become autonomous, in each English lesson, I have to train them in comparing answers to reach consensus, in leading, and in taking decisions. At the beginning I would have to assign them specific roles with specific aims.
