The Pharaoh is not only the ruler, but also a God. They were considered to be demigod, half human half god. They worshiped the Pharaoh and thought when they died that the pharaoh would help them on there journey to the afterlife. The Priest lived in a Temple and never went outside, ever. By staying inside, he cared for the Gods. The Temples were dwelling places for the gods. They thought that when you died, your body had to be preserved to go to the afterlife. Mummies were the way they were able to preserve the body. Egyptians would take out the internal organs and put them in canopic jars.
