For the project, we were looking at revolution, and I chose to look at political revolution, specifically the issue the Trump administration has with trans people. I created a mood board of trans rights posters, so I could get an idea of where to start.

We then looked at revolution in the physical sense, so revolving, circles etc. We made a mind map on all the things we could think of for physical revolution.

For our homework we had to look at artists that related to political and physical revolution, I chose to look at Linder Sterling as I like that she created collages commenting on sexism and homophobia, which were very big issues in the 70's to 80's, which is the time period she created her art in, and because she was a woman creating art, she was criticized heavily and had to fight for her place in galleries.

We looked at some of the revolutions within the art world. For example when drawing and animation software was introduced, this changed the way in which we created art, as previously it was just traditional drawings and hand drawn frame by frame animation. We also looked at AI and if thats a revolution in the art world or not.

Now that I am confident in what theme I want to do, I can create more mood boards. One artist that was recommended to me was Austin Kleon who creates 'blackout poetry' where he censors a whole page and only leaves a few words visible which create poems when read together, so I made a mood board of some of his work, as well as a mood board that included trans artworks, posters etc. There is another mood board about one of my earlier ideas I had for revolution.

On Tuesday we were at the UCAS fair in London, so I only had Thursday and Fridays work as we didn't do any work on Tuesday. These are experiments on adobe, where I took inspiration from Austin Kleon. I took screenshots of articles online then put them in illustrator and vandalized them. I prefer the newspapers i vandalized physically as the digital ones look more like school reports than vandalization, where as the pages I vandalized physically, look like actual vandalism and not an edited document. What I could do next time is screenshot the article, then printed the screenshot and physically written on it instead of writing on it in illustrator.

This is the first poster I made. I was commenting on how people say that being trans is unnatural, yet changing gender is something that appears in nature all the time in a number of species, like the frog and the clown fish, which i drew here. I think that instead of manually making the font, I should have jut typed it in instead, as all the letters are different shapes and sizes and it looks mismatched. What I like about it, is that it's cold, and therefore, if it was an actual poster, it would grab someones attention so they can read it.

I was commenting on how the Trump administration removed any mention of transgender people from the stonewall monument site, which is stupid as it is thanks to these two trans women of colour, Martha P Jhonson and Sylvia Riviera, that the community had any of it's rights, so the LGBTQ would not be a thing without the T. I like the layout of this poster as it goes outside the lines, witch was not intentional but I think it relates to living outside the lines, living out of the stereotypes, which is what these two incredible women did. Next time I could add the trans flag somewhere in the poster to show what it's about, as not everyone knows who these two women are.

In Stuarts lesson I rummaged through a big box of newspapers and magazines, and found every newspaper I could then went through each article and cut out the ones I would vandalize. I like my newspaper vandalizations, because it means that I can express my opinions visually, and vandalization itself is a form of protest. Next time I might photocopy the articles and print them out bigger that way you can see my writing and highlighting clearer.

This was a collage i created in photoshop, I was commenting on the stardust theory, which is the theory of how we can come full circle, from being created from stardust that the first bacteria fed off of when the earth was created in the big bang, to our corpses gasses being released back in to the atmosphere and in to space with the stars. I don't like this collage, because I think I could have added some words about the theory on top of the planets that way if people see it they'll know what it's about, as it will add context. What I like about this piece is the layout of the planets behind the skeleton, I like that the planets aren't in an organized, straight, aligned layout, and rather a chaotic placement, I think it shows the chaos of space.

This was a digital collage i created in photoshop, I compiled snippets of the newspapers I vandalized and added Martha and Sylvia at the bottom, the articles behind them are about trans rights and MAGA, and I think that if Martha and Sylvia were alive today, they would have a lot to say about the world at the moment. What I like about this piece is the layout, I like that I put Martha and Sylvia on top of the other images, I think that shows how important these two were as they are standing on top of all this nonsense. What I would do next time is add more images on top of the background as it brings attention to the foreground, as a way of saying ignore all thus bad stuff happening behind us and focus forward.

In Stuarts lesson, I made a physical collage out of photocopies of the newspapers I vandalized. I used my red lipstick to write on the collage, this is because, red lipstick became a famous anti fascist symbol as Hitler despised red lipstick, so it quickly grew popular in the 40's, and with my theme being political revolution, it relates well. What I like about this is the lipstick detail, not only does it add coeur, but it also sends a message. What I would do next time is add more lipstick, because it stands out so I could write important stuff with it, however I was limited as the stick was running out and I didn't want to use it all up.

These are my thumbnail designs for my final outcome ideas. The first idea I had was a short three panel comic, where each panel would be a digital collage. The next idea is another digital collage where I would have a direct quote from Trump, and newspaper articles about him that I vandalized, placed behind the quote.

For my final piece I chose the comic idea, so I drew the thumbnail bigger. I have already downloaded images off of Pinterest, then on photoshop i'll edit them, and create digital collages of them, each collage will be a panel of the comic, then I'll assemble the comic after I've done each panel.

This is part of my outcome. I think that I did well in showing political revolution, as each panel shows a form of protest, I've shown vandalism, a protest march, and posters. Next time I would start earlier that way I could make more outcomes as I was interested in a zine aswell as badges, but unfortunately I didn't have time to do that as I only thought about it towards the end of the outcome.

Finally, I went on my phone to look up the lyrics to Bella ciao, so I could type them around the border of the panels and then I changed the color of the background. I chose Bella ciao as it is an anti fascist song, and it is very topical for my theme of political revolution.

This is the second part of my outcome, I made designs for badges that could be worn at protest or casually. I like that I made the flag the border of the badge, I think that it's a nice detail as well as adding Martha and Sylvia in the middle to show the history of trans people. Next time, if I had enough time I'd make badges for the other flags in the LGBTQIA+ title, eg gay, bi, queer, intersex and ace, with the design of the flags being the border of the badge.

This is the final part of my outcome, I wanted to include a picture of me and Chloe, to show what actual lesbians looks like, as there are so many stereotypes about how we should look and how we should act and those stereotypes have made there way in to the community which is not good as it's creating a lot of discourse in the lesbian community. As with the last badge, I like the flag as the border of the badge, however I think I could've made it a bit bigger as it's hard to see all the colors clearly

As part of my feedback, Karen mentioned other forms of protest media like stickers, badges and zines, I liked the idea of creating badges, so I started making badge designs on photoshop. I first started making the base of the badge using the eclipse tool.

after creating the base, I created the flag around the outside, I did this by using the eclipse tool again, selecting no fill and changing the color and the thickness of the outline

Next I typed ' I'd rather be a dyke than a dictator' I chose this because, I have had a lot of people, who are trump supporters, tell me that 'at least I'm not gay' and yet they support a dictator? it makes no sense, so I thought 'I'd rather be a dyke than a dictator', seeing as that's the slur they like to call me.
