Italy used to be divided into many independent states. In 1845, a revolution started. Italy was attacking and trying to take over other countries. At first they failed, but then they began winning. In 1871, Italy was officially unified.

There were many great and bad leaders of Italy during this time. For example, Victor Emmanuel II, the king of Sardinia. As well as Camillo Benso, the Count of Cavor. Both leader figures. Victor being the first king and Camillo being the first prime minister of United Italy.
