Authorities disapproved of plays because of moral and political reasons. They also believed that people gathering to watch plays could spread the plague even more. The first playhouse called "The Theatre" prospered, but was eventually taken down due to conflicts with land ownership. Shakespeare and many other actors built "The Globe," a small octagonal theater that could fit 2000 to 3000 people at a time.

Basic admission into a theater would cost 1 cent, equivalent to 60 cents in today's currency. Those who paid more would receive better seats that included roofs, the higher up one went, the higher the price was. Before a play begins, a trumpet is blown three times, the run time of the average play is around 2 hours. All actors were males, that means even the female roles in plays were performed by boys.
