In adult and children movies they have an image of a woman or princess. This image is usually of a thin woman with long hair and colored eyes. Their hair is usually long and with a high pitched voice and light glowing skin. Movies considers this image and only this image of a woman, beautiful. Movies bombard this image into the minds of young girls and women of how they should look. Movies also shape the way men see themselves by showing a buff and big guy to be dominant and stronger than people that don't fit the image. They compare darker skin with bad and lighter skin with good and alters the way people see themselves.

Music shapes the way young women and young girls see themselves. A lot of the popular songs that people listen to promote a women's figure to be perfect if she has a big butt or big chest and flat stomach. Songs that express lighter skin being better than dark skinned. Making women feel that their own looks aren't good enough for society. It has gotten to the point where women have began getting unnecessary surgeries just to "perfect" their bodies to meet this standard. Now people are using the saying "Light skin vs. Dark skin", instead of expressing each others differences as a unit.

Television also plays a huge role in body image for both male and females. The actors they pick to play a tough role for men are usually big and have a lot of muscles and the weaker ones are usually skinny or short. The women that are getting the male actor's attention are usually actresses with a slim body figure and are wearing ta lot of makeup. The over due the image of the actors and actresses to fit this image of society and when people watch this they feel a connection between it. There are usually black men playing intimidating violent roles against someone smaller. People that are usually violent terrorists are of Arabian descent and crimes are usually being committed by Hispanics or African Americans.

The Role that Media Plays in the Hypothesis

The media chooses what it wants to expose and what it doesn't. If you take the time to look up on Google search engine "Sexy white moms" and "sexy black moms", there are two totally different images and it's not because of the difference in skin color. The white moms are shown having slim bodies and strong confidence while the black women are shown in exotic inappropriate images. They promote the image that black women can't possible be sexy unless they are not full clothed. It's a disgusting image the media exposes. The news chooses which stories and pictures they wan't to promote. When talking about the death of young black teenagers they find negative images of them to display but, of white children they promote positive images. Social media promotes the " Light skin vs Dark skin" by showing the women and men with lighter skin more prominent and more important than others.

Society paints a picture of how us as people should look. We cant control the way we look but try to fit into the image as best we can by keeping our body in shape, makeup, and surgery. People need to learn that we can't control our genetics and should express our own original beauty without the thought of how others look.
