Starting in my youngest grades, I was always encouraged to go above and beyond with everything I did. As I got older and school became more challenging, their expectations got higher, and I was becoming more of a role model for my younger brothers. Of course I have always appreciated their interest and care for my schoolwork, because I know not everyone has parents who care so much about their kid's education and future. However, it sometimes became very overwhelming. There have been so many moments where I felt like I couldn't keep up, and like I was disappointing my mom and dad. It sometimes felt like it was never enough, no matter how much effort I was putting into it, and it became un-motivating. I realized that I was looking for validation through my grades, and even if I personally thought I was doing well, it didn't matter unless my parents told me I was too. Now that my high school education is slowly coming to an end, I have really reflected on how far I've come over the past 10 years of school, and I know I have them to thank for my success and growth. Even when I thought they were asking for too much from me, I always knew I'm extremely lucky to have such supportive parents who want the best for me, and I will always be grateful for the time, effort and thought they have put into me and my education. I feel like this project represents how they have been there for me from the very beginning, and how I wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for them.
