It's not just one or two traits that can determine the quality of teacher that you become. A good teacher needs to be patient. Someone who can sit with kids and explain things in a variety of way numerous times so that the child finally understands. A good teacher needs to be kind and caring. The kind of person who truly cares about you as a person and a student. Someone who truly wants the best for you and every other student that passes through their classroom door.
To be a great teacher you need a great leader. As a teacher you have to be willing to stand up in front of everyone and lead a full discussion. You must be able to engage others. 
To be the best of teachers you have to be willing to commit your time and energy into everything that is your classroom. You have to be willing to make your classroom a safe space for all who enter. As someone in their first few years of teaching you most likely will need to maintain a second job throughout the year being as your starting wages usually aren't enough to get you through. Starting pay with a Bachelor's degree averages around $46,262 a year. 
A good way for teachers to increase their pay other then needing to hold a second job would be to become a coach. You can teach a variety of sports. You could become a school club sponsor. Or even teach summer school among various other options. 
After learning about the salaries of a teacher I am still interested in becoming an educator but I do know that in order to make ends meet I will most likely hold two jobs.
