My mother used to bake the traditional Lithuanian Rye bread and I used to observe the process which was very complex and time consuming, and the recipe used to be passed onto generations as it was unique to the area we lived and recipe used to be amended differently (to a taste/ liking) in each family.
In my family we were taught to respect the bread and don't waste it as it was precious and expensive to make at the time. I love to use the bread in various ways - eat it with butter, make a sandwich or even spread sweet jam on it.

Not everyone in my family has the same taste for bread and we certainly do not have a particular tradition in this regard. I like hard and not fluffy bread, preferably handmade. As I learned from my grandmother as a child to never throw away bread, because it is a sin, although I no longer agree, even today this perception subconsciously makes me always eat stale bread until the last slice, even if it is hard as a stone!

This is a traditional bread, made in house! In Greece they used to make it with sour dough, as it lasts longer. In every house there were ovens that operated with wood. In some villages still make it like in our area. When you pass by the smell is compelling!
