Her subsequent arrest sparked a reaction from the Montgomery Women’s Political Council, and soon the whole Montgomery community got behind the effort. A one-day boycott of the Montgomery bus services was so successful that Dr. Martin Luther King, leader of the Montgomery Improvement Association, asked people to continue the boycott, which eventually lasted for 381 days. Not long afterwards, the United States Supreme Court ordered that the Montgomery segregation law was unconstitutional and that the buses were to be desegregated.
