What is being inspected?
Often inspected with little to no notice Early Years Foundations Stages will have the following checked:
-children being well looked after
-environment is safe and stimulating
-setting is being well managed
- providing opportunities for high quality learning
-setting is supporting children's development

How inspections are reported?
Initially the report is given verbally, OFSTED publish their reports on their websites and the setting should also do this as to publish their level, when OFSTED visit they will send some inspectorates who question and observe practitioners and children, they will record this and then publish this with a level of the quality of the setting. They will give the report to the setting and their level.

How inspections help parents make choices?
OFSTED reports are available for viewing online on the OFSTED website and all settings websites, on the reports there will be a rating from Outstanding to Inadequate, this will give the parents an insight into the care available at the setting and how well the child will learn and develop.

How to form action plans from OFSTED reports?
On the reports there will be separate levels for each area that they inspected, they will also give a written report for their visit, this will go into depth about the different sections and reasons why they got a particular level in an area. Setting can use this report to find their weaknesses and then create targets and plans around these.

OFSTED work slightly differently in schools as they are looking for different things, the key features that they look for during their visits are: evaluating the effectiveness of provision to meet the care and educational needs of children, and identify areas of provision that need to improve. The inspectors will create a report on findings they get from teachers, parents, and children by making observations and asking questions. These areas are on top of the inspectors looking at the children's holistic needs and how they are met.
