My love for animals rooted from my dad who wanted to become a veterinarian when he was younger. My family adopted a dog from the human society when I was 4 and ever since then, I have been in love with all animals. When senior year of high school came, I knew I needed to choose a topic about a social justice issue in America that really fascinated me. The movie Blackfish really triggered me to research animal cruelty in America.

I am not much of a reader. I always saw it as a hassle my mom forced me to do during my summers in elementary school. The only book I have really truly enjoyed reading that I was forced to read in school was The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I found it so interesting how Fitzgerald chose specific words to evoke an emotion to the reader.

My summers in elementary school were spent at my city library reading as many Nancy Drew books as I could. My mom put me in a summer reading camp where every time I read a book, I would get a prize. This program really introduced me to leisurely reading books that fascinated me.

My junior and senior year of high school I took yearbook, which I ended up falling in love with. I found it very interesting with the idea of making a book that everyone in the school would get and cherish for the rest of their lives. The class was very rewarding especially in the end when we got to actually hold the book we had work tirelessly on.
