Apart from what any critic had to say about my writing, I knew I had succeeded where it counted when my mother finished reading the book and gave her verdict. "So easy to read."

The Summary: The quote to the right of us is essentially the entire problem for the author. Over time the Author had went from the emotions of loving the Broken/fractured version of English that her mother had used to disgusted because of what everyone such as bankers and waiters had done at that point. Those people would ignore her and also pretend to not understand her(mother). In the end the author wanted her mother to be able to express thoughts freely and understand the full basis of the English language.

This quote shows an intimate level of love for the language a daughter grew up with. The daughter had loved that language until everyone else around her did't and it even out the author in a specific problems because of the differences in language.

The power of language in the world is a very complicated thing. In this essay that Amy Tan had written the people around her mother would not choose to understand her or ignore her , if they understood most of what she meant it would be rare. Think about it in the world people that use broken English are actually very well misunderstood. Just like Ann's mother she could be ignored by others such as bankers and waiters and would have to rely on her daughter to do almost everything from modern phone calls to even crucial doctor visits.

This book(essay ) would have a mixture of emotional appeal (pathos) and logical appeal (logos)as well. Think about it was an emotional journey for the author in this essay she understood that language had affected the relationship with her mother even in the smallest of ways. Then the logical appeal is how the information the author had brought into the essay had actually fit into the story. In other words it had brought a scientific viewpoint into the story as well as the viewpoint from the daughter on that same emotional level I had mentioned earlier.

The story/essay main argument is how the power of English or language in general can affect one woman's life or an entire culture. It can even change how one views the way their own mother talks and that is a very interesting statement that anyone can make.

The essay was more filled with metaphors. In example when I say metaphors I am really talking about how people described the language of the mother. The figurative language only digs so deep into the essay but in all reality the story and the style of writing digs into everything else.
