Their goal was to survey the territory that was got after the Louisiana Purchase. Along their way they pick up a few new party members, A french fur trapper, and Sacajawea, she is very important because she was able to talk with some of the indigenous tribes there as well as carry around her young son (although she was techily enslaved to the french fur trapper)

So Americans wanted the land in the west from their original colonies, but there were people in the way, what would they do? So the trial of tears is something heavily looked down on today, what of kicking out native Americans from their homes and forcing them to move somewhere very far away, to indoctrinating them and forcing them to be Christians and forget their ways, or just die. But back then, it was justified by them being Christians and wanting some more land

So back then, there was a thing called "Africans being enslaved for easy, cheap labor," but it wasn't that fast. cotton was a big thing back then and people really needed it, to do that thought it would require a slave to manila pull the seeds out of the cotton in order for it to be used, this was a long and tedious task. then came along the cotton gin, a machine that was able to separate a lot of seeds from the cotton, making the time it took to get cotton and the effort a lot quicker and easier
