         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li><p>The Visigoths, looked for protection inside the Roman Empire. In 376 A.D., they received permission to cross the Danube River. Two years later, the Romans regretted their decision and sent an army against the Visigoths. But at the battle of Andranpole, the Visigoths crushed the Roman legions. The Roman defeat signaled to all that Rome was no longer unbeatable.</p></li></ul>]]></description>

Efforts to increase the money supply by devaluing the currency only increased inflation.  The resulting high prices were a burden to most Romans. </p></li><li><p>The Idleness of the wealthy and the expense of providing free gain to the poor drained Roman resources. </p></li></ul>]]></description>

The empire's inability to effectively respond to these invasions highlighted its declining military and political integrity. </p></li><li><p>Culturally, the Roman civilization experienced a decline in literature, philosophy, and civic engagement. This cultural decline was accompanied by a loss of civic patiotism and a weaking of the social fabric that had once held the empire together.</p></li></ul>]]></description>
