Humanism focuses on being good in this current life rather than the after life. David was created due to Michelangelo’s rivalry with Leonardo. Michelangelo decided to try to outdo Leonardo so he took the 13 foot marble block and for 2 and a half years he sculpted it to perfection. Humanism influenced this decision since before the Renaissance, David would not be made as it was to be a big waste of time as it is not praising the church. Not only that, but Michelangelo was in terrible conditions while making this sculptor such as low food, not changing boots. Before the Renaissance, none of this would have been possible, however due to the influence of Humanism, Michelangelo focused on the sculpting of this world rather than aiming for something in the afterlife. David himself, represents him as a symbol of strength as he is so large and powerful, and he was installed outside Palazzo Vechio.
