This is some ways that the author of the book Nineteen Steps, Millie Bobby Brown, changed the course of the book by not adding some of the true events that really happened in 1943. Also, how she showed the message of the book to the readers.

This is a book about a girl named Nellie who was with her family in London. She had to experience the terrible event of the Bethnal green tube incident in 1943, where the houses surrounding hers would be blown up by bombs dropped by the German invaders. Sometimes, people would also lose their lives and Nellie had to experience her family member's passing away. Through this hard time, she had to make a choice between 2 boys she loved which were also contradicted by these events.

This is a document demonstrating what decision Nellie Morris had to make and what she did, how the historical context of the whole book affected this decision, and what I would've done if I was put in Nellie Morris's position. Along with a real life person who had an experience something like Nellie Morris.

For my extension, I found a character in history named Vera Brittain who experienced heartbreak through World War 1. This is a different time period than Nineteen Steps, but some traumatizing events she had to go through were very similar to the ones of the main character of Nineteen Steps, Nellie Morris.
