What I've learned so far in the reading is that Gilgamesh rules as a tyrant, or a dictator, and how Enkidu and Gilgamesh's personalities differ so much. Gilgamesh was a selfish ruler that took boys away from their families to join the army, and that took women first before they were married. When Enkidu was introduced he started out as a beastly man who transitioned into a sincere human. Enkidu's sincerity immediately contrasted from Gilgamesh's cold heart, selfish nature.

After reading, I have learned that Gilgamesh is not a nice ruler. He is very demanding and rules such as a dictator. However, after he meets Enkidu, Gilgamesh has a quick turn of heart and turns into a loving man with emotions. The more he was around Enkidu, the more he embraced Enkidus traits.

I learned that Gilgamish was a not a pleasant ruler and was a dictator or sorts. He became more mature as he met Enkidu and became kinder as he spent more time with him. The prostitute was the key in this situation, having sex with her for 7 days and 6 nights he had to learn the ways of people, now that the animals didin't accept him. This transition caused him to meet Gilgamesh and make him a better man.

From reading the beginning of the Epic of Gilgamesh, I have learned a lot from the main character. Gilgamesh is part human and part god, although he can be known as a “hero” or “god” many of his attributes show otherwise. He is a terrible ruler with high expectations, his way of ruling was more of a dictatorship rather than an authentic proper way of ruling. Later on the Gods created Enkidu for Gilgamesh in hopes it would change his horrid ways.

What I learned from reading so far is that Enkidu is created for Gilgamesh. They are very similar people even though it doesn't look like it at first glance. It forces both of them to see parts of themselves that they have never seen before. Gilgamesh has the biggest change as he begins to develop the caring side of himself that nobody has ever seen.

From the reading, I've learned a lot about the norms for society in that time period. For example, they have many different gods like Aruru, Shamash, Anu, and many more. I also learned more about character foils, as Gilgamesh and Enkidu are great examples of these. Their contrasting personalities are used to enhance the differences in their natures, while also highlighting the prevalent similarities.

However, after meeting Enkidu, Gilgamesh saw things in a different light and became kind. This has shown me that through friendship and kindness, an individual can change their ways. Gilgamesh was on a journey that lead him to a brighter path.

From the first 16 minutes of the Epic of Gilgamesh, I have learned a lot from the Hero character. Gilgamesh is considered to be a serial rapist and not a very good leader, and I can infer he won't be a good friend either. Because of his actions, Enkidu is created to put him in his place. They eventually become friends but Enkidu dies because of Gilgamesh based on what the crash course video says.

At the beginning of the chapter Gilgamesh was a horrible ruler and irresponsible man. As the chapter progressed we were introduced to his match Enkidu. After their encounter where their strengths were matched, Gilgamesh started to see the error of his ways as a ruler. In the next chapters we will see more progression of his character and his relationships with other characters.

After reading the first chapter of the epic of Gilgamesh, I learned the importance of being civilized. Rather than Enkidu and Gilgamesh constantly fighting and trying to defeat one another, they became friends and combined their power. Together, they took down both the lion headed man and the bull sent by the goddess. This goes to show that when you are matched in power by a potential enemy, you should try to be cordial because together, the two of you could do great things.

What I have learned:
What I have read in the Epic of Gilgamesh is that the leader (Gilgamesh) ruled like a tyrant. Breaking many taboos of the time: Sleeping with women then man , power being completely on his grip (no checking of power), and having a god like status amongst the common person. People were too powerless to overthrow him, thus he kept his thrown. Also, it amazes me how many gods they had back then. They had a god for everything, which follows the use of the monotheistic god today for many religions: if you cant explain something through reason, just say god(s) did it. It just happens to be that the division of action of gods back then were much more diverse, and I love this.

Therefore, you can see your flaws and character and identify features that are toxic or invalidating. Moreover, it also informed me that although two people may look alike, they both have separate personalities and actions beyond their appearances.
