Sharing stories.

In my experience, the value and importance of sharing stories with children in my care is to read out loud. I learnt to read the author and illustration in the beginning before reading the story.

It is important to mention and read the authors name and also the name who illustrated the book so that children will know which book it is, in my experience children likes to read books with pictures. So whenever it’s story time i know which books the children enjoy more, but sometimes it’s best to read a book without pictures and just letters.

Sharing stories to the children, it takes a lot of responsibility to tell stories to children’s, because we need to think of what kind of imagination, and the language, also to make puppets and characters.. but I do love to read to the children, it is important because reading could make them start to imagine about culture experience, they could talk about our culture to their new friends that are new to daycare in the future..

Sharing stories with children can help them to become more curious and explore their own curiosity, being curious will make them ask questions, and having them being able to explore will make them gain the knowledge they’re looking for. Sharing stories helps children to create imaginations, and sometime these imaginations can became reality. It can be something small or something big.

For me the value and importance of sharing stories with children in my care is, helping them engage in the stories, answering any questions they have while reading the stories. Some stories may have an impact on what the story’s about, like having the children understand that it’s not right to bite or hit your friends.

Sharing stories can help children with their language development and use their imaginations as we are telling stories, they can get curious and ask questions to help with their big or small imaginations! It is important to share stories of their traditions to know the way of life or how our ancestors have lived but in a proper way for childcare.

Sharing stories to children can open up their imagination, help with their language, reading and writing and their speech. While telling stories we can use props, like puppet's, dolls, and homemade dolls. Use those to do a play on how the story goes and have the children see what the story is about

In my experience, it is important to share stories with children because it teaches the children that the person who is telling the story is using their memory, or using their imagination to come up with a story. It teaches children to use their brain to try picture what the educator is saying (if not using a picture book), which is great for cognitive development.

An example of me telling stories to children is during circle time, I told the children what I did over the weekend at home, then I asked each child one at a time to tell me and their friends a little story of what they did over the weekend as well.

I have helped children learn by storytelling and using their imagination, using open-ended questions. While reading books, we can also use props or use our “animated” voices, ask questions about the book before, during and after reading it and help strengthen their memory skills.

Sharing stories with children in my care is important because it helps them feel connected, safe and understanding. From my own experiences, children enjoy listening to stories about family, cultural, daily life and childhood memories. Stories help children learn language, listening skills, emotions also important life lessons in a natural and meaningful way.

In Inuit cultural, storytelling is also a way to pass down traditional values and knowledge from elders and family members. When I share stories, children can learn to have respect, kindness, land, animals and community. It helps children feel proud of who they are and where they come from.

I have noticed that children become more engaged and confident when stories for their own experiences. They like asking questions, sharing their own ideas and connecting with others. Storytelling also builds strong relationships between educators and children because it creates trust, comfort and positive communication.

Overall, sharing stories supports children’s learning, imaginations, culture and emotional development in caring and respectful way.
