Multiple mixes for recording

Start with making a chord pattern or finding a vocal sample and working around that. Also adding a limiter or soft clipper to the master channel.

Pitching the vocal sample and adding effects, chopping it up if wanted to stand out from others using the same sample.

Create a melody around the chord pattern and vocal

Layering the chords or melodies with another sound such as a pad

Create a counter melody 

Setting up mic stands and microphones

Adding 48v to any microphones that require it

Wiring it all into the desk to run through the DAW 

Set up headphones so the drummer can hear the track as well as me with the talk-back.

Make sure they hear the track and try fix any issues that we come across

Doing sound checks to make sure that all the microphones are being picked up- communicating with the drummer to play certain parts of the drum

Balancing the audio to make sure nothing is clipping using the desk

Balancing their audio levels to a level they're happy with.

Playing the track for the drummer to play alongside with to warm up (and trying to record them doing it if possible)

Record after they're comfortable and we didnt get a good take during them warming up.

Depending if they want a full clean take or are happy using multiple takes and editing them, recording and picking takes that were good and putting them together.
