Ramses II was the 3rd king of the 19th dynasty, his reign was from 1279–1213 BCE. His reign was the second longest in Egyptian history. He was a successful Pharaoh. Egypt had a successful military period under Ramses II. He led and won Egypt in many wars, which helped them to conquer land in Syria and Canaan which meant Egypt could control important trades. He build many important buildings like temples, palaces and monuments for worship towards him and his God's.

Ramses II's building program was extensive and impactful, contributing significantly to Egypt's architectural history. He built many temples, palaces and monuments around the whole of Egypt. One of his most famous buildings, The Great Temple of Abu Simbel was built as a place of worship for Rameses II as a God after his death, also in honour of his Gods Amun-Ra and Ra-Horakhty. Outside the temple, there are 4 colossal statues of Rameses II, Amun-Ra, Ptah and Ra-Horakhty. The back wall on the inside of the temple describes Rameses II victory at the battle of Kadesh and other descriptions of other military campaigns.

Internal Administration

Ramses II was not very successful with internal administration but he did not need to do very much as everyone in the country respected him. His father had been an incredible military leader which put Ramses II in a good position to continue strengthening Egypt by conscripting men from all over Egypt to fight in his armies. This and the strong alliances he formed with other countries in the region like Babylon and Syria meant that Egypt was able to protect their borders and did not face internal disruption.

Ramses II had a very successful military campaign. His father was a very successful military leader which helped Ramses II to get men to fight for him in war. His most famous campaign was against the Hittites, which was one of Egypts greatest enemies at the time, this was fought at Kadesh in 1274 BCE.

This was a victory for Egypt and Rameses II.

Ramses II had other military successes throughout his reign. He led successful campaigns against the Libyans and Nubians. He conquered new lands in Syria and Canaan, which meant Egypt could control many vital trade routes.

Ramses II was successful with his religious policy, he followed the traditional Egyptian Religion, he encouraged the worship of the chief deity of the Egyptian Church, Amon-Ra. He built many temples and monuments towards many Gods and Goddesses. His policies played a role in shaping the religious worship of his time. Ramses II's religious policies contributed to his legacy as one of ancient Egypt's most significant and successful pharaohs.
