In the meantime, it is part of the qualification of young scientists to conceive and plan scientific events such as meetings and conferences. In this workshop, participants will be supported and accompanied in the conception of a collaborative/cooperative and possibly interdisciplinary oriented meeting or conference format, based on their individual research topic.

 

A successful scientific event comprises four levels, which are worked out together: 

- Factual level (issues and goals). 

- Contextual level (general conditions and outreach)

- Personal level (individual wishes and needs) 

- Social level (interaction and cooperation)

 

The focus is on the conceptual phase, starting with the generation of ideas, the formulation of a content-related and communicative-social objective for the conference and its translation into an appropriate conference format and concept, be it for an analog conference in spatial presence, be it for a digital conference with its manifold possibilities to use online tools, be it for a conference in blended learning formats that uses good practices from both "worlds". Considerations for the operational implementation follow.

 

The participants will have the opportunity to apply the planning tools they have learned to their own concrete conference project and to discuss their concept with the trainer and the other participants. Primarily operational questions (e.g. "Where can I apply for funds?", "How can I organize a room?") remain in the background, but are reflected on according to the needs of the target group. (Participants will receive checklists to assist with these operational questions).

Participants are asked to email their questions and concerns to the trainer prior to the workshop.

 

Intended outcomes of the training

Participants will be able to,

- generate conference topics based on their own research interests 

- select the appropriate conference format for their objectives (compile suitable formats from a 

jointly developed collection)

- develop innovative forms that promote dialogue and collaboration 

- develop ideas for attracting participants - from targeted invitations to calls for papers, and

- Include publication opportunities as early as the conference design stage.
