The Emerald Ash Borer's scientific name is Agrilus Planipennis. Their nickname was given to them because they are an emerald color and mainly feed on ash trees, and lay eggs on ash trees. They can also be called EAB.

https://www.invasivespeciesinfo.gov/terrestrial/invertebrates/emerald-ash-borer

The species was introduced by getting caught in a cargo container that then was shipped from North Eastern Asia to the USA. They were caught when a company left their cargo opened, about to be put in the ship. They are smaller so no wonder we didn't find them in the containers.

https://www.invasivespeciesinfo.gov/terrestrial/invertebrates/emerald-ash-borer

The into was most definitely accidental 2 Emerald Ash Borers were caught in a cargo container headed for the US from Asia. The EAB (Emerald Ash Borer) is killing millions of ash trees, and it arrived sometime in the 1990's.

https://ohiostate.pressbooks.pub/sciencebites/chapter/the-attack-of-the-emerald-ash-borer-in-the-united-states/
