a topic i'd like to explore would be tribe and neo-tribes as this concepts really captures the society with live in. A good example is football fans as groups of people supporting one team and in certain environments they share actions and beliefs. this can also connect with music as artists, producers work and believe in certain ways and follow them in a tribal manner. Artists and even producers have many fans and they all socially gather to celebrate or follow someone or something related to that context in a tribal manner.

This topic is rather engaging as this concept of tribes can be applied to most things in our society today, where it be music, tv shows, dancer, art, food. Its a way people can communicate.

the idea of gender in music is seen differently for many people. In the music we listen today many aspects of music have been sexualised or have sexual connotations. A good example of this is women being heavily sexualised as objects.
In relation, yet in contrast to this idea due to this heavy imagery of women being seen as objects, many artist take this opportunity to turn this negative image into good. Examples of are like beyonce's 'Run the world', which encourages empowerment for women.

with this in mind another topic is race within music. for example hiphop, soul, gospel and rap music is heavily connected to black culture, as is derived from their roots. Same goes for rock most people would associate rock music as a white genre.

task 1
(balliger, 1995 p13)

this quotation highlights the idea that the music we listen depends on our upbringing and our surroundings. We are aware of a lot of music and as listeners we can take our own experiences and knowledge into the song and everyones perception can be different or similar but we can relate to the song and how in fits into our own lives.

in this music video, it is bringing awareness of police brutality and how most cases judgement due to persons race, as well as the current situation of living with a "hood" environment. throughout the video, the artists in going through his area, showing people of different culture, emotions and highlighting that in in dark places there is light and many strive for greatness and freedom but can't due to there circumstance or place of living. I believe this artist is trying to bring awareness to his home town, to draw attention and reduce its negative connotations, as well as encourage others to do the same.
