School has always been in the way and you assigning work on top of work is not making it any better . I know the assignment was due today , but something even more important was due for me as well . I had to go to work for 3 days straight and you only gave us 2 days to complete the assignment . When getting out of school I am tired, and I don’t get any time to rest my eyes. It's straight off to work.We get out of school at 2:27 , I have work at 3:30 to 10:30 , according to the “CDC Health schools” website, an average child that is in the age range of 13-18 should get 8-10 hours of sleep , I get the bare minimum . When doing the project I do not want to be tired and not give it my best effort . I want to have the energy to do it and to be wide awake and overly focused . I believe in second chances and you should too . Your job is to make sure all of your students succeed and if you don’t give me extra time to do the assignment I might not be able to be the best version of me that I can be . If I get extra time I will make sure to do that assignment with effort and to turn it into you no later than tomorrow .

I think that schools should get rid of all homework. According to the cvc it is recommended you get at least 8-10 hours of sleep. Most people wake up at 6am or earlier to get to school at 7:30-8:00. So this means to get the healthy amount of sleep you need to go to bed at 10 pm. School ends at 2:20 and on average students get home from 2:45-3:30. For example we will assume you get home at 3 pm. This leaves you with 7 hours after school before you go to bed. In my experience and most likely many others homework takes almost 2 HOURS. This immediately leaves you with 5 hours left to do other things. But most people have responsibilities. For example they might have to take care of their siblings or pets or they may even have a job. They also have chores too. This leaves students with so little time to themselves where they can enjoy themselves. This expectation is just extremely unrealistic or a teenager. What I think should be done is make homework optional. The point of homework is extra practice at work, but not everyone needs it. I think they should make homework optional. This will make it so kids can enjoy their life without being overwhelmed by stress and anxiety and can just have time for themselves. It also keeps the option to have extra work if you're struggling but without forcing you to do it.

In 2013, research conducted at Stanford University found that students in high-achieving communities who spend too much time on homework experience more stress, physical health problems, a lack of balance in their lives, and alienation from society. Thousands of students come home everyday with homework to do, and I don’t know about you but after working all day in school I don’t enjoy coming home and doing another 3 hours of work. When I get home all I want to do is relax and talk with my friends and family, not stress about my math homework or chemistry project due the next day.

As mentioned in an article by HealthLine, researchers found that spending too much time on homework meant that students were not meeting their developmental needs or cultivating other critical life skills. Students were more likely to forgo activities, stop seeing friends or family, and not participate in hobbies. I feel this statement is completely true, there are some days I have so much homework that I am unable to just sit back, relax and do what I want to do. I feel that if teachers did not give out homework that kids would actually somewhat like school. When there’s no homework there is not really anything to stress about. This is why I believe that homework should be eliminated from all schools.

When you think of the word homework, what comes to mind? Most student’s answers will probably be “feeling stressed, feeling overwhelmed, and frustrated”. Teacher’s answer will probably be “An assignment that students are required to complete at home or they will receive a 0”. Some tecahers don’t understand how students feel. Students feel stressed when going home and completing homework because it can be overwhelming for them. Students may have events after school which can prevent them from completing homework. These events could be sports, babysitting, job, appointments, mental health etc. When students get home from after school activities they are tired. Students should be focused on their health and getting enough sleep, not staying up late trying to get work done .I believe Homework should be banned for all students. I feel like Homework is unnecessary and stressful, students are young and shouldn’t feel stressed.

In my opinion, schools can make up a new learning schedule for students. An example of this is, Half the class time should be used to educate the students and the other half of class students will work on assignments. If all students finish their assignments in class then homework is unnecessary. Students spend hours at school working, therefore teachers should not force them to do more work when they get home. Another idea is incorporating a study hall period for students to complete any missing assignments or just relax. Students only get a less than 30 min lunch break but spend hours in a class. I believe this is unfair because teachers expect us to get work done, but don’t give us time to do it. I understand school is meditory and against the law if students don’t go without an excuse. I also understand that teachers are here to educate us and make sure we are understanding what is being taught. In conclusion I believe homework should be eliminated because it’s overwhelming for students and not against the law at all.

Homework is not as effective as most people think for students. If anything it is an extra level of stress that is applied to students on top of already having to get a multitude of things done. Could you imagine how difficult your life would be if you had to go to school, be a functioning member of society, work a job, get a ton of homework done and still sleep? That would be psychological torture, they would never be able to live their lives, get everything done, try to do things they enjoy comfortably and get a good amount of sleep. According to Nationwide Children's Hospital teenagers in New Jersey should get 9½ hours of sleep but only get 7½ on average. Not getting enough sleep leads to hindered admedic performance along with safety hazards from lack of rest and negative mood shifts. Not to mention that not all students will do their homework and of the percentage that do there is a portion that just copied from their friend to get it done. According to The Washington Post highschool students get an average of 2.7 hours of homework per night. That’s 7 hours of school, 2.7 hours of homework, and other life necessities such as eating, doing activities, potentially working jobs, having hobbies, interacting with society, getting ready for school, and traveling through and from school and still having to sleep. Could you imagine having to do all those things simultaneously at a decent quality and still being happy and giving your best effort in all of those subjects without suffering from burn out? Homework takes up time, stresses students out and to top it all or may not even be the best way to remember something.

History has shown that repeated actions in short bursts is more effective in helping students to memorize a topic than spending hours at a time doing one thing and never looking at it again.

When I can learn about something else that I would actually enjoy and learn a lot from. Medical assisting has gotten boring and I understand that it’s not always going to be fun and games but medical assisting class isn’t really going to do anything for me in the future because I actually want to be an Pediatric Oncology nurse. I assumed medical assisting would be more in depth with the medical field which I thought was wrong. I would have fun and learn a lot from culinary because I already love cooking/baking. Why not learn something new and learn more about something I love to do? In the future I can have culinary skills to fall back on if the medical field doesn’t work out for me. I would rather not do these 4 years of high school learning about medical assisting if it’s not going to do anything for me when I go to nursing school for oncology besides taking blood pressure & pulse. I’m going to have to learn it again so I would rather spend my high school years learning something new and something that I would enjoy.

Teenagers need sleep because they are growing kids turning into adults. I have felt the pain and sadness of having to wake up early even though I could've slept so much more. There have been so many days that I have shown up to school and didn’t want to be there just because I didn’t get enough sleep. I am a high school student. If the school should listen to anyone it's one of their own students. Stanford.edu states “sleep deprivation increases the likelihood of teens having poor grades, drowsy-driving accidents, anxiety, depression, and more.” I feel so sad some days just because I can’t sleep. We as a student body need to come together and make schools not give us homework.

Teenage years only last so long, I was living my best life with my friends. From age 13-19 is when I get to make those wonderful memories, I want to be able to create those and not be grounded. I know that you both were teenagers once and I bet you came home a bit late once before like I just did. The weekends are my free exciting days and according to raisingchildren.net, ¨Teenagers need free time to explore interests, unwind or be with friends.¨ I do have rules and I have always obeyed them but I know that tonight my curfew was earlier than before and I was so focused on my friends and having fun out on the town. And I ended up forgetting to look at what time it was! Last weekend I came home an hour before curfew! Polaristeen.com states, ``Approximately one in five teens suffer from at least one mental health disorder.¨ I feel as if my mental health is much better when I forget about my stress at school everyday. As a child to an adult I feel that I know how busy your schedule is and when it is your weekend, you like to have time to relax, with your own friends or going out for the night to dinner! Apa.org informs, ``About 54% of teens are stressed compared to 39% of adults.¨ Being able to obey my rules for curfew is always done by me and I truly am sorry for being late. And I should not be grounded for making my free time for my mental health.

Keep Trying

Dear Principle, according to Sunshine Learning Miami giving students extra assignments can lead them to having unhealthy levels of stress. Having homework is giving these poor children and teens ``headaches, exhaustion, sleep deprivation, weight loss and stomach problems” and they are having a roughly hard time balancing their life. Which can overwhelm them. I know from my experience and many of my friends that homework gives us unwanted stress. We get so worked up that we get tired and feel like giving up and crying. I strongly believe that we shouldn’t have homework and if so then something that won’t make us feel stuipd or make us feel like we are under a lot of pressure. In the article it explains that they require when students get home they should give their brains a break and get their minds off of school. They need to also experience things outside of school and not feel like they’re locked up and alone. These types of things can make students feel buried. I feel as if we ignore this topic because I bet a lot of people know about this like teachers, staff, and principle. However, they can care less because they have their own opinions on things, so all I and other students can do is just to keep trying.

Frick curfew

Did you know that curfew is proven to be ineffective for keeping teenages out of trouble according to https://whyy.org/articles/curfews-dont-keep-kids-out-of-trouble/.

I personally think that there is no reason for curfew because if you are out and your parents know where you are and safe then there should be no reason for it. If your parents give you a curfew they are not following the first amendment according to NYRA. In detroit in 1976 when the curfew law was put in place it didn't help with the crime of youths it actually went up. When the law was put in place the crime of youth dropped 7 percent during curfew hours but increased 13 percent during midday hours. In today's society I understand why people want curfews for their kids but I feel that if you are not walking or riding a bike while it's dark out and you are safe I feel that you should be good. When minors are getting in trouble at night and committing crimes people just think that a curfew will help that but just because there is a curfew doesn't mean crime will just disappear. In the 1990s there was a huge spike in curfew crime. Crimes like 🤬 muder and assult where at a sky high of 56 percent. Although curfew makes parents and loved ones feel safe about what their kid is doing and when they are going, that doesn't stop all the crime that is going on in the cities and towns of america. Nowadays you can get apps like life 360 and others so that you can know where your kid is at all times and when they leave a place and when they arrive. In conclusion i don't think that curfew is a bad thing but i think that it shouldn't be forced on all people i think that if you commit a crime and you get caught like probation i think that you should also be set a curfew by a judge depending on what you did and when you did.

Homework is a problem

If you ask anyone if they like homework, 99.999999999999% will say no. Even teachers who used to be students definitely did not appreciate homework. So why do we have homework? And is it a good thing? Well short answer, no homework sucks, and also its existence is flawed. An example of this is from this website wonderopolis.org it says,” Homework creates a bridge between school and home. Parents rarely get to spend much time with you while you're at school. Homework allows them to keep up with what you're doing in your classes on a daily basis.” Yes, I agree homework creates a bridge between school and home, but not in a good way. I have been going to school for a long time, in fact, my whole life, and I can tell you one thing whenever I come home my parents don’t ask me about my homework, they ask me about my day and what I learned. To be honest I feel most of the time they got annoyed at my homework especially when I was little and did not understand things. Having them constantly help me if I did not get something on the homework is a big time waster especially when they have the stuff to do. I guess that’s just one of a million responsibilities they have as a parent but just to let you know they aren’t teachers their parents. So now that we know that homework existence is flawed, let me tell you why it sucks. First off the list is immeasurable but here are some facts about why homework is bad for health. For example, in mysunshinelearning.com it says, “Many students wrote that homework causes them to sleep less than they should and leads to “headaches, exhaustion, sleep deprivation, weight loss, and stomach problems” as well as a lack of balance in their lives. Most experienced distress and/or lacked time to engage in important life tasks outside of school. Please principal, remove homework.

Did you know that over thousands of students don’t get their work in time or turn it in late. That also does not count on problems they may have at home or mental health problems and the list goes on. Those are thousands of kids who have many other things to worry about then just work. They have to sometimes worry about what they are gonna have for dinner or even if they will have dinner, or when they have to watch their siblings all night and take care of them. Even though they are other kids, for me I have been going through a rough time and it hasn't been easy, and I am well known people have off days and that isn’t a excuse but it has not just been a “bad day” I have no motivation to do anything or even as well as getting up out of bed leading alone trying to do my work, I have experience family difficulties that has put me in this situation that I am in right now. I pushed myself to go to school, but that is the only thing I can do. I haven’t been seen by a doctor who has diagnosed me with depression but I doubt I am not. My parents keep saying I need to see a therapist to find help because they see what is wrong with me but don’t try to help me.

Now I want you to think about what can go through so much a teens head and how they try to push themselves to do the bare minimum and how you guys expect us to do projects on time when we have other stuff to worry about. Do you think it's only some kids or do you think we all go through it? According to states people have said both depression and anxiety tend to be higher in older children and teenagers between the ages of 12 and 17. But many of those kids aren't strong enough to go through it alone. This is why I urge you to give me atleast a couple of days to finish the project.

Better sleep council studies show that highschool students spend way too much time doing homework. Even if school reduced the homework students would have more time to pursue what they really want to do instead of hw. Last night I was up until 2 in the morning doing my homework that left me with only 3 ½ hours of sleep.according to the better sleep council. ¨The recommended amount of sleep that a teenager should get is 8 to 10 hrs.¨ When I was up last night I was on the verge of falling asleep and I was so drained but I knew I had to get it done so I pushed through it. I know from experience that too much hw can cause loss of sleep and in turn you may have worse grades in school. Studies show that more than half of the kids in a school don't get enough sleep because of homework. Sleep is not the only thing that homework affects according to the better sleep council, “75% of all the kids at a school tests and homework is their biggest worry.¨

Students that spend lots of hours of homework deal with more stress, physical/mental health problems and lack of balance in their lives. It's like adding another responsibility when the ones they already are challenging enough to deal with alone. In school you have 4-8 classes a day with different teachers and it is hard to keep up with those classes, let alone to do more work at home. People with other things to do such as in clubs, sports and other activities even out of school, it's difficult to balance that and to do homework. A lil homework here , and there it's fine but until you get piled on with work and expect teachers to hand it in one day is outrageous. it happens some days and not all days because they begin to stack. I feel more drained because I’m too worried about my grades going down by refusing to type on a chrome book when we do plenty when we are at school. studies indicate that 50 to 90 percent of computer users suffer from visual symptoms of computer vision syndrome. Sleeping is already an issue because students stay up late at night doing their work and from being on work go to sleep late and then wake up tired. Then teachers wonder why that students are sleep in class but they ignore the fact and blame on you for being on the phone all night.
