Scythe

The first book I have chosen to read is 'Scythe' by Neal Shusterman. In class at the beginning of the school year, Mrs. Cornett was mentioning a few of her favorite books. Along with just her favorite, she told us the genre it was a part of. Never would I have thought I would be into 'futuristic', but boy oh my it was the best choice I could have ever made. I am a type of reader who enjoys horror and futuristic movies, so this was an excellent choice for me. A prediction I have for the pages I'm about to read is that Citra is going to fail the test. Rowan will complete it with a perfect score but mess up and make Scythe Faraday very angry at some point I am also predicting that Citra will become a new scythe. When reading the book, at first I wasn't sure but when I took the time to actually sit down and read, I quickly began to get addicted. I feel like such a book addict right now; I've been telling everyone how good it is and how they should read it. Over all I feel like it is interesting and doesn't just stop getting interesting. The author did a good job writing and making ideas flow along with bringing unexpected parts. I feel like this book will challenge me in some way. First by maybe making me not want to do chores because I'm at a really good part. Secondly, I've never gotten so into a book, most of the time I get bored with half of my books but this one I'm already starting to plan how much the second part of the series will be.

There are many conflicts in the book I'm reading but a major one that just came up is heart pounding. Citra and Rowan have their first test, they go into it prepared yet Citra lied about herself on her question and got punished from it. Once that happened Rowan couldn't just leave Citra so he bombed his question too which made the scythe leaders come together and decide on a punishment. the punishment was to kill whoever fails the next test. just when you think that's heartbreaking just wait until you hear this! they come home that night, morning came until they realized scythe faraday was gone, someone was pounding on the door. a scythe council leader took them and said Scythe faraday killed himself so that Citra and Rowan could be thrown out of all competitions to go home yet it backfired. Another scythe stood up to take their place and now they are separated. If I was to be honest I don't respect their decision to throw their first test because it’s very important and now they must see consequences for their actions. I am personally a very competitive person and so would not have thrown it like how Rowan did. I would have probably gone on with the right answer just to be better than the others. I can also make a similar connection for what they did. It was to either get a 0 for not doing work or talking to my friend in class and they had me so caught up I was willing to take a 0. NEVER AGAIN! I’ve learned my lesson.

In Common

The most recent book I have read in the past year that I actually enjoy is Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur. If I were to compare it to the Scythe, it would be hard to find a similarity but not impossible. The most common one I can think of is love and what you do for love. In the Scythe it talks about how Citra and Rowan have a connection and also how Rowan is willing to take his life instead of hers because of that type of connection. In the book Milk and Honey it is about a strong love connection and how she gets hurt and more hurt staying with him and yet leaving him also. If I was two say they had a small connection, it would have to be something about love and what It means to them and their partner. A character that remind me of the author is Rowan. He is willing to risk everything for a girl and get hurt because he has fallen in a deep love. As the same as the author who talks about how she has fallen n a deep trap of love and cant get out no matter how hurt she gets. From everything that is similar I have to say they ae yet completely different. The scythe is more about competition and risking lives as how milk and honey is talking about strait love and no backstory than how she's dealt with it. another difference is one genre is futuristic and the other is a poem that has nothing to do with the future. In the Scythe there aren't many things drawn to me besdies the intensity of the plot that has you on the edge of your seat at all times. I normally don't stay in my comfortable zone when reading and I just go all out. Give me a book about Chinese history and ill read it, I mean it wont be my favorite but ill read it.

Point of View

The point of view shifts between two of the main characters in the book. The point of view impacts the plot by showing both sides to the story which come together at the end. It shows how ones actions is contributing to the others. An example would be when rowan killed Scythe Goddard and everyone was heartbroken and the conclave that they both attended. The point of view really contributed to the character by putting us in their shoes. Making us believe what they were believing not knowing what was coming next. It made me get more into the book having me on the edge of my seat eager to finish and figure out what happens. I couldn't imagine if the point of view was different. It would most likely make the book boring because you would know everything that's going on and there would me no suspension and surprise. If the narrator was a different character like Scythe Faraday I don't believe the book would have been so amazing. If scythe faraday was the narrator, we would know just the basics of being a scythe and what he eats while how we are the scythes apprentice it shows more of what they personally think of this confusion. It is a weird way to watch it but it gets the message through that don't give up and always fight no matter what.

Since I've started the second part of the series of scythes, I feel not so connected and into the book it gets so confusing and not so good. I feel like the book jumps everywhere and going from the first book to the second it adds A LOT of new characters. I can’t really keep up with them all because the first original people are pushed to the back and it jumps from present to past. It just has gotten very confusing lately and I’m not so sure how I’m feeling about thunderhead, it was a great first book but the second one just isn’t the best and I’m sure if you read it, you would know. It gets me very upset trying to read it because I can’t exactly just know what’s going on in the book because is just everywhere; it really makes me frustrated. I wish it just kept on going from the first book with almost same storyline but no; it completly changed and not for the good at least. Maybe I should slow down my reading and not worry about how fast I can read and I’ll get it better? I’m not sure. An example of something that really made me upset is when they added this guy that is trying to talk to the thunder harass and is now in jail I guess? But I don’t know if he’s the real bad guy or not and it’s super confusing because they talk to him like he was trying to kill scythe Anastasia and scythe curie yet at some points it’s acting like he did nothing at all and jumped in front of their car? But I still can’t tell if that was the same guy or not. And then Rowan is now in jail I think with that guy but it’s really confusing by where he is and what his point is in the book right now and he’s almost just someome who has no point but just to make it longer if that mkes may scense. I would NOT reccomend this book to anyone right now; I will keep reading it to see if it gets enter but as of this moment it just really is not good. :(

A character I really want to talk about today is Scythe Faraday. He is such a great man and deserves to be the greatest scythe. He does his job for the reason it’s supposed to be; to not kill just to kill but to do it for the world and keep the peoples actual feelings in play. He was a great teacher to Citra and Rowan and made them who they are today. They are highly likeabke and I have no idea why anyone wouldn’t. He does the best for everyone and would give his all to keep someone safe. He has a heart of gold. I feel like the author made him that way so every character could have one person to go to that the others could trust. Almost like that one friend in a friend group that you could tell every secret to or they would be your designated driver for the night. He did to for him to be a dad figure for the junior scythes that he has made and raised. I do see a few characteristics in myself. I am very confident with what I do and that person all my friends can come to. I do my best to be the best and to not brag about what I do yet just do it.

A book that I’ve read in the summer is called calm my anxious heart by Linda. This book has really changed my thoughts on the world and how to love it even more than I do now. It teaches me how to learn hard things don’t go my way and that they are meant to go that way for a reason. it really has opened my heart up to really look at the details of everything even more being able to look at the sky and the clouds and thank God for letting me be here. It’s not the fact that I’ve never liked the world before, it’s just I just thought of it as being the world nothing more just the place I live in but this book really opened my eyes to see that it’s so much more; It’s so beautiful and every single part of it is different just like how every single one of us is different. A real example of how it really changed me is how I am now able to forgive more easily than I was before. I used to have really bad trust issues but now my heart is more open and I see people as humans and humans make mistakes alot; I forgive them a lot more than I should. that’s the whole part of living. It also has taught me my worth and how I want to be treated and how i should be treating others just like the golden rule.

Struggles are Real

There is a new struggle that has come up in my book and it’s pretty early on. I have just started the Michael Vey series and in this book there is a kid named Michael Vey he was getting bullied with his friend Ostin. He is getting shoved in the lockers and just being called awful names more than half of the time, yet his principal always punishes the victim and he has no way out. This is bullying and it’s draining his mental health so much that he got so worked up and took his powers of electricity. It almost reminds me of how so many emotions build up from people doing these awful things but you just start crying. This is a very big social struggle happening and Michael these life. I think the author is trying to convey his readers that you should stand up for yourself and you are always bigger than your bullies you don’t have to hurt them but just keep your bullies closer. It’s almost just like that saying, “keep your friends close but your enemies closer.” I really believe this is what the author is trying to convey since he gets shoved and treated awfully all the time yet he e isn’t meaning to hurt them but if it comes out wrong it scares the bullies and they go away; but since it’s a fictional book it carries unrealistic things. I don’t exactly agree with the message to make your bullies cry and hurt them but I also like how he’s standing up for himself and doesn’t let the boys take over fully.

If someone were to have looked at all my books from the past year they would see I am a dreamer. I like to think of things that have yet to become more like a realistic future in that case. I am a big science believer and from the choices I read it I believe they could tell that I am. I am also a very down to earth person in front of the more realistic books that I have read, they can see that I believe in myself and I like to read about overcoming or mental minds . This year I have really pushed myself out of my comfort zone. Are used to hate everything about reading but I finally found a really good book that was 300 pages which was never in my journal to do but I did it and I loved it. I haven’t stopped reading sense I’m so glad for this year. More things that I can do to make my reading level bigger and greater is probably branch out to work I will eat it at the moment I really am realistic fiction and it’s OK there are good books up there but I’m thinking of maybe going to Like James Patterson books they are more I don’t like it I feel like it would challenge me a lot more to understand his thinking.

At the moment I am reading the book Michael vey Series is part three. This part of the series is all about choices of who to trust and I think it works great with this prompt. Michael Vey in his electroclan Or in the Amazon rain forest trying to save Michael’s mom. Take it a mysterious phone call from someone only know or in the Amazon rainforest trying to save Michael’s mom. Take it a mysterious phone call from someone unknown. This unknown person will not say his name and it makes Michael very curious. He helped him out in many situations of getting them out of danger yet he is still very cautious about whether to trust him or not. While they are in the rainforest a part of the unknown person’s party is helping them get his mom and get back home. Yeah at the moment Michael Bay and his clan got split up and he doesn’t know whether to trust him or the other guy. His friends got blackmailed by hatches team and they really trusted him so at the moment this is the biggest plot twist happening since their trust is now gone it’s a big pivot in the book.

If you style choices my other shoes is to do is flip perspectives in between each chapter 4 instance want to talk to me about Taylor like always girlfriend and the next one will be about hatch . Doing less I can see the point of you of everyone and go deeper into their thoughts like Michael V‘s perspective could be saying that he thinks Taylor is mad at him whatever Taylor’s perspective is totally opposite than that and this is why I really enjoy the author using his style choices of flipping through each chapter changing characters perspectives. If I were to be writing a story or a book I could use these if I had many characters I’m trying to get each of their points through. He also uses a lot of dialogue inside his book which I feel like I should use a lot more inside my writing as to emphasize maybe. He uses a lot of emotions inside his writing going through character to character and once again if I were to write a story I would be using this along with the perspectives of each character throughout the chapters. I believe it makes the story flow better and it’s more understandable.

A few messages I get from Julius Caesar act one is probably to never fully trust anyone. I know it’s something silly to say but even in your enemies can turn on your back. I know that I said it was better to have your friends over the world but that one Francovich for you and it’s all over about 50% of the world would have your back. A Nother universal idea/message I think it is saying well mostly that seems out to me could also be the fact that people are very jealous and the people you trust the most well which are you sometimes and that really sucks a lot but that’s just kind of how life goes so you just got to stay strong through it all. In my personal choice novel I can see it as how Michael said he trusted Michelle to come back with his trust yet she still disobeyed him and told hatch where they were where they were set up when they got taken risk in her life. Trust is everything in our lives and a liar the time we never get what we need so a good life example though I think everyone goes through this but your friends are your enemies.
