This passage begins with suspense which builds up tension to help the rest of the story to be descriptive. It's almost like Scrooge has a flashback to when someone told him that ghosts are described as dragging chains in haunted houses. Seeing that the house was so big the noise carried throughout the haunted building which made a spine tingling echo. The cold hearted soul was probably feeling colder than ever in the dewy merchant cellar

One why Dickens has raised tension is by using very spooky, dark and eye catching words like dismal and impenetrable. He has also made his surroundings sound like the are looming over him and it is a very nice place to be. Not only that the why he describes Marley's face is good because he uses similes like a "bad lobster in a dark cell" and the short sentences create high tension.

It is very tense when the author says the house was like thunder. This passage makes the story a substance text because of all it describe how Scrooge feels. We all think that he is thinking out side of the box and how his house is to dark and gloomy for any normal person to live in. For example when it says Half a dozen gas-lamps out of the street. We think that this is good because it is so descriptive and that it feel like you are there.

English:

It's is a relievtive clause. He was refreshing his memory because he saw a scary face and he thought he was dreaming. There was a bit of tension when he walked through the door by "he did pause"before he shut the door". The quote suggests that he's

lonely and sad.

It is very deceptive and he has used good adjectives used, clanking and heavy, it also draws you in and makes you want to read more. The simile Is strong and describes what is happening. This quote is intelligent for example it shows how alert Scrooge is. Also it's very creative and it tells you how Scrooge is feeling and what he is doing.

It tells you where he peers ' sitting room, bedroom, lumber room. All as they should be. Nobody under the table, nobody under the sofa; a small fire in the great…' He tells you exactly where he went and made it exiting. Dickens builds up to add effect on the later story…
